ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball falls 66-62 in overtime in a hard fought game to Stephens College on Thursday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-6 on the season and 1-4 in American Midwest Conference play while the Stars improve to 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in AMC play.
Senior forward
Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) would start the scoring with a three. A jumper and another three from Jackson would put the Lady Hornets up 8-4 in the first quarter. A three from junior guard
Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would push the lead to 11-8. A jumper from freshman guard
Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) and a jumper from Dilosa would give the Lady Hornets a 15-13 lead. Dilosa would hit two more threes in the quarter as the Lady Hornets led 21-16 after one quarter of play.
Two free throws from Dilosa and two jumpers from Montgomery would give the Lady Hornets a 27-16 lead after the 6-0 run. A 7-1 run by the Stars would close the gap as the Lady Hornets led 28-23. A free throw from senior forward
J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) and two free throws from senior guard
Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would push the lead back to eight. A three at the buzzer for the Stars would give the Lady Hornets a 31-26 lead going into the half.
Freshman
Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) would extend the lead to seven with a jumper. A jumper from Davis would give the Lady Hornets a 37-32 lead with 7:08 to play in the third quarter. After two made free throws from Dilosa the Lady Hornets lead was 39-36. The Lady Hornets lead would be cut to 45-44 with 45 seconds left in the quarter. After Dilosa would make two free throws the lead was 47-44 Lady Hornets going into the fourth.
A jumper from Jordan would give the Lady Hornets a 50-46 lead. The Stars would use a 7-2 run to take a 53-52 lead before Jackson made a jumper. Montgomery would tie the game at 58 with two free throws. The Lady Hornets would get outscored 8-4 in overtime.
The Lady Hornets went 21-64 (32.8%) from the field, 6-18 (33.3%) from three and 14-24 (58.3%) from the free throw line. Dilosa led the way with 22 points, while Jackson added 16 and Montgomery added 12. Jordan recorded nine rebounds. Montgomery recorded five assists. Jordan added four blocks and two steals.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, December 14th at 1 pm against Central Baptist College at Emerson Performance Center.
