ELSAH, Ill. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 56-40 on Tuesday night at Principia College. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-8 in the season while the Panthers improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Panthers would start the game on a 6-0 run before senior forward
J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would make one of two at the free throw line to get the Lady Hornets on the board. A jumper from junior guard
Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would cut the deficit to 6-3. After a made free throw by Dilosa the deficit was 6-4. A layup from senior guard
Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would cut the Panthers lead to 9-6. The Panthers would take a 13-6 lead after one quarter,
A layup from Swire cut the Panthers lead to 15-8. A three from Swire and a layup from senior guard
Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) would cut the Panthers lead to 15-13 after the 7-0 run by the Lady Hornets. Two free throws from freshman guard
Jayla Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) would stop the 6-0 Panthers run and cut the deficit to 21-15. A layup from Jackson would continue her 4-0 run and cut the deficit to four at 21-17. A jumper by Swire would cut the Panthers lead to 24-19 going into the half.
A jumper from Jordan cut the Panthers lead to 27-21 early in the third quarter. A layup from senior forward
Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) would end the Panthers 6-0 run and cut the deficit to 33-23. A three from
Jayla Jackson would cut the deficit to 35-26. A layup from Evans cut the Panthers lead to 39-30 going into the fourth quarter.
A jumper from Dilosa cut it to 41-32 Panthers early in the fourth quarter. After Jordan would make three layups and a jumper to cut the Panthers lead to 49-40 the Panthers closed on a 7-0 run to take the 56-40 win.
Swire and Jordan each recorded 11 points. Jordan went for a career-high 16 rebounds. Swire dished out three assists. Jordan went for game-highs with five blocks and four steals. The nine blocks by the Lady Hornets was a season-high for a game.
The Lady Hornets went 16-58 (27.6%), 2-10 (20%) from three and 6-10 (60%) from the free throw line.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Thursday, December 19th at 11 am at Missouri S&T.
