Women's Basketball Falls at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 80-50 at Missouri S&T on Thursday morning. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-9 on the season while the Miners improve to 6-2 on the season.

Senior guard Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would give the Lady Hornets a 2-0 lead early in the game. A jumper from senior forward Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) would cut the Miners lead to 7-4. Two free throws from Jackson would cut the deficit to 7-6 with just under seven minutes to play on the first quarter. A 5-0 run by the Miners would conclude when Jackson made two more free throws to cut the deficit to 12-8. The Miners would close out the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 19-10 lead after one.

Junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would start the second quarter with a three to cut the deficit to 19-13. A layup from Dilosa would end the Miners 5-0 run and cut the Miners lead to 24-15. A jumper from Dilosa and from Swire would cut the Miners lead to 26-19 with 6:27 left in the second quarter. A layup from freshman forward Armani Bingham (St. Louis, Mo./Clyde C. Miller) would cut the Miners lead to 28-21. After a layup from Jackson cut the deficit to 30-23 a 6-0 run from the Miners pushed their lead to 36-23. A three from Dilosa and a layup from Jackson cut the deficit to 36-28 before the Miners held a 38-28 lead going into the half.

A 6-0 run that saw Dilosa record two layups and a jumper from Jackson cut the Miners lead to 38-34 with 8:06 left in the third quarter. A jumper from Dilosa cut the Miners lead to 40-36 before a 9-2 run saw the Miners take a 49-38 lead before a layup from Swire cut the deficit to 49-40. The Miners closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 58-40 lead to the fourth quarter.

The 9-0 run continued in the fourth and was pushed to a 16-0 run by the Miners that ended when Dilosa hit from three to make the Miners lead 65-43. Jackson would score four of the last seven points for the Lady Hornets while Dilosa scored the last three of the game for the Lady Hornets. 

Dilosa had a game-high 24 points while Jackson finished with 16. Bingham recorded a career-high eight rebounds while Jackson added seven. Jackson also finished with four blocks and two steals.

The Lady Hornets went 20-58 (34.5%) from the field, 4-13 (30.8%) from three and 6-10 (60%) from the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, January 7th as they continue American Midwest Conference play at Missouri Baptist at 5:30 pm.
