Women's Basketball Falls at Home to Columbia

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball falls to Columbia College 74-39 on Thursday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-10 on the season and 1-6 in American Midwest Conference play while the Cougars improve to 13-0 and 7-0 in AMC play.

A jumper from junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) tied the game at two early in the game. A 4-0 run by the Cougars would be halted by a Dilosa jumper to cut the deficit to 6-4. A 4-0 run by the Cougars would be ended by a layup from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) to cut the deficit to 10-6. A layup and two free throws from Dilosa would cut the deficit to 16-12. The Cougars would go on a 9-0 run before a layup from Dilosa halted that to cut the deficit to 25-14. 

A jumper from freshman guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would cut the deficit to 30-18. The Cougars would respond with a 9-3 run over the next three plus minutes to hold a 39-21 lead at the half.

The Cougars would start the third quarter with a 17-0 run before senior forward Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) to end the run. Jordan would add a free throw before the Cougars would hold a 65-24 lead after three quarters.

Dilosa would start the fourth quarter with two free throws before a jumper from sophomore forward Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) would cut the deficit to 65-28. A three from senior guard Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) and two free throws from Jackson would cut the deficit to 70-33. A jumper from Evans and two from Dilosa would round out the scoring for the Lady Hornets.

Dilosa would record a game-high 22 points. Jackson would lead the Lady Hornets with nine rebounds. Jackson and Jordan would each record two blocks.

The Lady Hornets would go 14-62 (22.6%) from the field, 1-11 (9.1%) from three and 10-13 (76.9%) from the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, January 11th at 1 pm at Emerson Performance Center against Cottey College.
