FULTON, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 83-56 to William Woods University on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in American Midwest Conference play while the Owls improve to 5-5 and 3-1 in AMC play.
Senior guard
Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would give the Lady Hornets a 2-0 lead 15 seconds in with a layup. After a jumper from senior forward
J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would cut the deficit to 5-4. After a layup from junior guard
Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would cut the deficit to 13-11 with 2:53 left in the first quarter. A layup from senior forward
Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) would cut the deficit to 16-13 before the Owls would hold an 18-13 lead after one.
A three from senior guard
Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) would cut the Owls lead to 22-16. A layup from freshman forward
Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) would bring the Lady Hornets within seven at 27-20. A jumper from freshman guard
Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would cut the Owls lead to 37-27 going into the half.
The Owls would open the third quarter with an 11-2 run to push their lead to 48-29 before an 8-2 run by the Lady Hornets that saw Montgomery knock down a three and a made layup while Swire would also hit from deep to cut the Owls lead to 50-37. A 13-4 run by the Owls would give them a 63-41 lead after three.
A three from Montgomery would cut the Owls lead to 72-51. Freshman guard
Dyonna Moore (St. Louis, Mo./Vashon) would hit a three before the Owls closed out the game 83-56.
Dilosa would lead the Lady Hornets with 15 points while Swire and Montgomery added 10 each. Jackson recorded 10 rebounds while Davis added nine. Montgomery also recorded four assists.Â
The Lady Hornets went 23-63 (36.5%) from the field, 7-24 (29.2%) from three and 3-7 (42.9%) from the free throw line.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Thursday, December 12th at Emerson Performance Center as they host Stephens College at 5:30 pm.
