Baseball Conludes Series with 14th Ranked Spartans

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball concluded their three game series against the 14th ranked Missouri Baptist Spartans on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field. With the loss the Hornets fall to 1-15 on the season and 0-6 in the American Midwest Conference play while the Spartans improve to 21-7 and 6-0 in AMC play.

The Spartans would score early as they would jump out 3-0 in the first and add four more in the second to take a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the second. The Hornets would get on the board in the bottom of the second after an infield single to third by junior Za'Maree Tillman (Bakersfield, Calif.) would set the stage for and RBI double to right off the bat of senior catcher Zach Lopez (Wentzville, Mo.). The Spartans would score one in the third and fourth to take a 9-1 lead.

The Hornets would score in the bottom of the fourth after junior infielder Jack Boland (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Community College) would single in senior outfielder Xavier Fuller (Memphis, Tenn./Middle College) after Fuller ran for Lopez. The Spartans would tack on three in the sixth and seventh.

Senior first baseman Hunter Miller (Chesterfield, Mo./Upper Iowa University) would deliver a sac fly in the sixth for the third run of the game. In the bottom of the seventh Lopez would walk with the bases loaded to bring home the fourth run and freshman first baseman Carter Henderson (San Diego, Calif.) would drive in a run on a fielders choice.

Junior outfielder Dwayne Daggs (St. Louis, Mo.), junior third baseman Tyson Dent (Memphis, Tenn.), Tillman, Lopez and Henderson all recorded two hits in the loss.

Missouri Baptist shortstop Alex Adams would hit three homeruns in the game to lead the way for the Spartans.

The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, March 26th against Brescia University at Hornets Field with game time still to be determined.
