St. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball split the doubleheader at Stars Park against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets took game one 9-4 and fell in game two 11-8. The Hornets record is now 2-25 on the season and 1-16 in American Midwest Conference play while UHSP moves to 10-25 and 3-14 in AMC play.
In game one, the Hornets would score one run in the bottom of the first with a bases loaded walk to junior outfielder
Skywalker Mann (Lee Summit, Mo.) that would score junior outfielder
Dwayne Daggs (St. Louis, Mo.). In the bottom of the second Daggs would pick up an RBI on a sac bunt as senior infielder
Devin Rader (Dallas, Texas/Cedar Hill) to extend the lead to 2-0. Senior first baseman
Hunter Miller (Chesterfield, Mo./Upper Iowa University) would pick up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to score senior infielder
Julian Cintel (St. Louis, Mo.) to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Eutectics would tie the game at 3-3 after back-to-back homeruns. The Hornets would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth after an RBI single from senior catcher
Austin Toler (Highland, Ill./Highland) that would score Cintel. Junior infielder
Jack Boland (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Community College) would drive in the fifth Hornets run with a bases loaded walk to score Mann.
In the bottom of the sixth, Miller would extend the lead to 8-3 with a three-run homerun to rightfield and Mann would hit one out to left center to push the lead to 9-3. The Eutectics would get one in the seventh to close the scoring in game one. Sophomore pitcher
Dakota Gaines (Jay, Okla.) picks up the win with a complete game allwoing four runs with three being earned.
In game two, the Eutectics would score in the first to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half, Miller would continue his hot hitting with a two-run single to left center to score Daggs and Cintel.
The Eutectics would tie the game at 2-2 in the third and would take the lead for good in the fourth with a grand slam to take a 6-2 lead. Miller would cut the lead in half with a homerun in the bottom of the fourth. The Eutectics would score one in the fifth to go up 7-3 before Daggs would steal third and score on a throwing error in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-4. The Eutectics would score two in the sixth to go ahead 9-4. Senior third baseman
Kyran Bacchus (Memphis, Tenn.) would double in the sixth and would score on a wild pitch to make it a 9-5Â game.
The Eutectics would add a run in the seventh to make it a 10-5 game. Cintel would score on a wild pitch to make it 10-6. In the bottom of the eighth senior outfielder
Xavier Fuller (Memphis, Tenn./Middle College) would reach on an error that would see Rader and sophomore infielder
Cam Pratt (Anderson, Ind.) both score on the play to make it 10-8. The Eutectics would add one more in the ninth.
Before the doubleheader the Hornets honored 10 players for senior day. They were
