ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball team fell to Southwestern Christian University in five sets (27-25,17-25, 25-21,23-25.9-15) on Saturday morning at the Emerson Performance Center and the Lady Hornets fell to Southwestern (Kan.) College in four sets (19-25,20-25,25-21,14-25) on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Hornets fall to 0-2 on the season.
In the first match, four Lady Hornets players recorded five or more kills with freshman outside hitter
Kaelin Rubin (Kennedale, Texas/Kennedale) leading with eight, while senior middle hitter
Jayden Sortor (Sherman, Ill./Parkland College) added seven kills, junior outside hitter
A'nyla Watson (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock) added six and sophomore middle blocker/right side hitter
Trinity Edison (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Central) added five. Edison would also add a solo block and three block assists while Sortor added four block assists. Sortor would record nine of the 16 serve aces in the match while sophomore outside hitter
Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic) added three aces, while sophomore outside hitter
Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) added three and sophomore setter
Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) added one ace along with 14 assists and nine digs. Junior defensive specialist
Makayla Hernandez (San Antonio, Texas/Lawton) led the way with 19 digs while McReynolds added 10 digs.
In the second match. the Lady Hornets were led by Watson with nine kills and Sortor added eight kills in the four set match. Smith would record all three aces for the Lady Hornets in the match against Southwestern College. Edison would record three solo blocks and three block assist while Sortor would add a solo block and three block assists.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, August 27th at 6 pm against Missouri Valley College at the Emerson Performance Center.
