ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball fell in three sets (21-25, 18-25, 16-25) to Mission University on Friday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 4-12 and 0-1 in American Midwest Conference play while Mission improves to 7-15 and 1-0 in AMC play.
The Patriots would take an early 7-2 lead in the first set. After the timeout, the Lady Hornets would go on a 15-9 run to tie the score at 17-17 with sophomore right side hitter
Trinity Edison (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Central) recording the kill to tie the set at 17 and force a Patriots timeout. After the Patriots timeout, the Patriots would go on a 4-1 run to take a 21-18 lead and force a Lady Hornets timeout. The Patriots would close the set on a 4-3 run.
The Lady Hornets would start the second set with a 5-3 lead. The Patriots would then go on a 7-1 run to take a 10-6 lead. After a timeout, the Lady Hornets would go on a 8-5 run to close the gap to 15-14 in favor of Mission thanks in part to sophomore outside hitter
Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic) recording two aces. After a Patriots timeout, Mission would go on a 10-4 run to close out set two.
After the first 10 points in set three the score was tied a 5-5. With Mission scoring the next three points to go ahead 8-5 it forced an early timeout by Harris-Stowe State. After the timeout, the Patriots pushed the lead to 9-5 before the Lady Hornets would go on a 6-2 run that was capped by three consecutive blocks from freshman outside hitter
Serenity Baker (Desoto, Texas/Desoto) and senior middle hitter
Jayden Sortor (Sherman, Ill./Parkland College) on the first block, Sortor recorded a solo block on the next rally to cut it to 11-10 and Sortor and Edison teamed up on the third block to tie the set at 11. After the Patriots timeout, the Lady Hornets would score two points to go ahead 13-11.Â
The Patriots battled back and went on a 7-0 run to take an 18-13 and force a timeout. After the timeout the Patriots would close out the set by winning seven of the final 10 points.
Junior outside hitter
A'nyla Watson (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock) and sophomore defensive specialist
Alexis Kemp (Kansas City, Mo./University Academy) both recorded a team-high five kills. Edison and McReynolds added four kills a piece. Sophomore setter
Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) recorded 10 assists. Sophomore defensive specialist
Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) had a team-high nine digs. Edison recorded five block assists while Sortor added one solo block and five block assists.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, Sept. 28th at 12 pm at Emerson Performance Center against AMC opponent Central Baptist College.
