ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University fell to Central Baptist College in three sets (24-26, 20-25, 23-25) on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Hornets the fall to 4-13 and 0-2 in American Midwest Conference play while the Mustangs improve to 2-5 and 2-0 on the season.
In the first set, the score was split at 10-10 through 20 points and the Lady Hornets would be up 20-19. After back-to-back kills by sophomore right side hitter
Trinity Edison (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Central) and sophomore outside hitter
Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic) the Lady Hornets led 22-19. The Mustangs would go on a 7-2 run to win the set.
In set two the Lady Hornets had a 10-9 lead before a 7-3 Mustang run to take a 16-13 lead. The Lady Hornets would cut the lead to one after kills from senior middle hitter
Jayden Sortor (Sherman, Ill./Parkland College) and Edison before the Mustangs would go on a 5-1 run to push the lead to 21-17. After a Harris-Stowe timeout, the Mustangs would win four of the last seven points to win set two.
In set three, the Lady Hornets raced out to a 8-2 lead. After a 6-1 run by the Mustangs to cut the Lady Hornets lead to 9-8 and a timeout by Harris-Stowe the Mustangs would go on a run to to push the lead to 23-20 before closing out the set 25-23.
Sophomore defensive specialist
Alexis Kemp (Kansas City, Mo./University Acdemy) would record a team-high eight kills. Sortor and junior outside hitter
A'nyla Watson (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock) recorded seven kills each while Edison added six. Sophomore setter
Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) recorded 16 assists while freshman outside hitter
Kaelin Rubin (Kennedale, Texas/Kennedale) recorded 12 assists. Sophomore defensive specialist
Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) recorded a season-high and game-high 23 digs.Â
The Lady Hornets return to action on Tuesday, October 1st at 6 pm against Hannibal-LaGrange in Hannibal, Mo.
