Women's Basketball Falls on Road to Missouri Baptist

CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 73-51 on Tuesday night at Missouri Baptist. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-12 on the season and 1-8 in American Midwest Conference play while the Spartans improve to 4-11 on the season and 4-5 in AMC play.

Junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would get the scoring started with an early jumper to give the Lady Hornets a 2-0 lead. Another jumper from Dilosa would make it 4-2 Lady Hornets. The Spartans would go on a 9-0 run before senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would make two free throws to cut the Spartans lead to 11-6. A layup from freshman forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) would cut the deficit to 12-8. Senior guard Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would make a free throw to cut the deficit to 12-9 before the Spartans would take a 13-9 lead going into the second quarter.

The Spartans would extend their lead to 11 after they started the second quarter on a 7-0 run. Freshman guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would make a layup to cut it to 20-11. A three from Dilosa cut the Spartans lead to 21-14 with 5:31 left in the first half. A jumper from Dilosa cut the lead to 25-17. The Spartans would finish the half on an 11-2 run to take a 36-19 lead into the break.

Dilosa would start the third quarter with a jumper. Senior guard Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) would cut the deficit to 38-23 with a jumper of her own. Dilosa would score the next five points for the Lady Hornets that would help cut the deficit to 39-28 with 6:31 left in the third quarter. A three from Dilosa cut the lead to 43-31. A layup and made free throw from Montgomery once again got the deficit to single digits at the Spartans led 43-34. The Spartans closed the third quarter on a 10-5 run to take a 53-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

A jumper from Montgomery cut the Spartans lead to 55-40. A layup from Evans would cut the deficit to 62-42. Evans would score five of the nine remaining points for the Lady Hornets that saw senior forward Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) make two free throws and a jumper from sophomore forward Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) to round out the scoring.

Dilosa led the way with 21 points while Montgomery added 10. Jordan and Davis each had six rebounds in the game. Montgomery added three assists. Dilosa added three steals while Jordan added two.

The Lady Hornets went 19-67 (28.4%) from the field, 2-14 (14.3%) from three and 11-16 (68.8%) from the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Thursday, January 16th at 5:30 pm as they play host to Mission University at Emerson Performance Center.
