ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball completes second half comeback to win 57-54 on Saturday afternoon at the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 3-13 on the season and 2-9 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eutectics fall to 2-14 on the season and 1-8 in AMC play.
The Eutectics would score the first eight points of the game before junior guard
Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would make two free throws to cut the deficit to 8-2. A jumper and free throw from senior forward
J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) cut the deficit to 10-5. The Eutectics would score the final four points in the first quarter to hold a 14-5 lead after one quarter of play.
A three from senior guard
Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) would cut the deficit to 14-8. A layup from Jordan and a three from senior guard
Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) cut the deficit to 17-13. The Eutectics would go on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 25-13 before a three from Swire ended the run. The Eutectics would score the last three points to hold a 28-16 lead at the half.
Dilosa would start the second half with a made jumper to cut the deficit to 28-18. Two made free throws from Jordan and a layup from freshman forward
Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) would cut the deficit to 28-22 with 7:45 left in the third quarter. After a three from Swire and a jumper from Dilosa cut the deficit to one before the Eutectics ended the Lady Hornets 11-0 run to start the third quarter. A three from Dilosa cut the deficit to 32-30. Another Dilosa three made it 36-33 Eutectics. A layup from Davis cut the deficit to 39-35. A layup from Dilosa tied the game at 41 going into the fourth quarter.
The Eutectics started the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 49-41 lead. A layup from Jordan cut the deficit to 49-43 before a 4-0 run from the Eutectics would push their lead to 53-41 with 6:38 remaining in the game. A three from Dilosa, a jumper from Davis, two free throws from Jordan and a layup from freshman guard
Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) cut the deficit to 53-52 with 2:04 remaining in the game. Dilosa would make two free throws to give the Lady Hornets a 54-53 lead. After a made free throw by the Eutectics tied the game at 54 a layup from Montgomery would make it 56-54 and a free throw by Montgomery would make it 57-54.
Dilosa recorded 21 points including 19 in the second half while Jordan added 11. Jordan would add 11 rebounds for her third double-double this season while also tying her career-high with five blocks. Jordan would lead with three assists in the game. Jordan, Dilosa and Davis would all record two steals.
The Lady Hornets went 20-70 (28.6%) from the field, 7-23 (30.4%) from three and 10-13 (76.9%) from the free throw line.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Thursday, January 23rd at 5:30 pm against Williams Baptist at Emerson Performance Center.
