Hornets Basketball Falls to Crowley's Ridge

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 78-69 to Crowley's Ridge College on Saturday afternoon at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 6-13 on the season and 3-8 in American Midwest Conference play while the Pioneers improve to 12-7 on the season and 6-3 in AMC play.

Senior guard Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) would give the Hornets an early lead after a picking up steal and turning it into a dunk. A jumper from junior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) would put the Hornets up 4-2. A jumper from senior guard Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) would make it 6-4 Hornets. A layup from junior forward Koran Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) would make it 8-6 Hornets. A jumper from senior guard Kevin Jones (Sikeston, Mo./Dakota State University) would tie the game at 12. A jumper from Chargois would cut the deficit to 18-15 Pioneers. An 11-4 run by the Pioneers pushed their lead to 29-19.

A three from Lampley cut the deficit to 29-22. Two free throws from Amos III cut it to 29-24. A layup from sophomore guard Justin Coleman (St. Louis, Mo./Delta State University) cut the deficit to 31-28. Two free throws from Amos III cut it to 37-35 Pioneers before the Pioneers held a 40-35 lead at the half.

A layup from Lampley cut the deficit to 42-39 early in the second half. After an old fashioned three point play from Lampley the Hornets tied the game at 42 thanks to Lampley scoring the first seven points of the half for the Hornets. A jumper from Amos III gave the Hornets a 44-42 before the Pioneers tied it at 44. Amos III put the Hornets on top 46-44 with two free throws. A layup from Chargois made it 50-48 Hornets with just under 15 minutes to play. A layup from Amos III cut the deficit to 55-54. A layup from Coleman made it 56-55 Hornets. An 11-2 run by the Pioneers made it 66-58. A layup and free throw from Jones cut it to 66-61 in favor of the Pioneers. A Chargois layup cut it to 68-63 with just over six minutes left. A layup from senior forward Jermarco Burse (Annapolis, Mo./Truman State University) cut it to 68-65. The Pioneers closed the game on an 10-4 run to pick up the win.

Amos III led with 19 points while Lampley added 16 and Chargois added 15. Lampley had a game-high 13 rebounds while recording his second double-double of the season. Chargois and Amos III each recorded three assists. Chargois also added three steals.

The Hornets went 24-61 (39.3%) from the field, 1-15 (6.7%) from three and 20-28 (71.4%) from the free throw line.

The Hornets return to action on Thursday, January 30th at 7:30 pm at Hannibal-LaGrange University.
