Lady Hornets Basketball Picks Up 73-61 Win Against Crowley's Ridge

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball picked up a 73-61 win over Crowley's Ridge College on Saturday afternoon at Emerson Perfomance Center. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 4-14 on the season and 3-10 in American Midwest Conference play while the Lady Pioneers fall to 7-10 on the season and 2-9 in AMC play.

A layup from junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) gave the Lady Hornets a 2-0 lead. A layup from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) cut the deficit to 7-5. A layup from Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tied the game at seven. The Lady Pioneers would close the quarter on a 5-1 run to hold a 12-8 lead after one.

A jumper from Swire cut the deficit to 14-10. Layups from senior forward Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and freshman guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) cut the deficit to 15-14. Two free throws from freshman guard Jayla Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) tied the game at 18. A three from Jordan put the Lady Hornets back in front 21-18. A layup from from freshman forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) made it 23-19 Lady Hornets. A three from Swire made 26-22 Lady Hornets. A 7-0 Lady Pioneers put them on top 29-26. Toree Jackson and Swire would each make two free throws to make it 30-29 Lady Hornets. A layup by Toree Jackson gave the Lady Hornets a 32-30 lead at the half.

Two free throws from Dilosa, a three from senior guard Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) and a three from Dilosa gave the Lady Hornets a 40-33 lead to start the third quarter. A layup by Davis pushed the Lady Hornets lead to 46-36. A jumper from Davis and Montgomery made it 50-42 Lady Hornets. The Lady Hornets would hold a 53-47 lead after three quarters.

A jumper from Swire made it 58-50 Lady Hornets. A jumper from Jordan and a layup from Swire made it 63-52 with just under five minutes to play. A layup from Swire made it 67-55 Lady Hornets with 3:03 left to play. Four free throws from Swire late in the fourth helped seal the 73-61 win for the Lady Hornets.

Swire led the game with 20 points off the bench while Jordan added 14. Dilosa added 13 and Toree Jackson added 11 points off the bench. Toree also went for 12 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season. Montgomery added eight assists. Jordan recorded four blocks. Swire led with three steals.

The Lady Hornets went 26-70 (37.1%) from the field, 4-22 (18.2%) from three and 17-24 (70.8%) at the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Thursday, January 30th at 5:30 pm at Hannibal-LaGrange University.
