Men's Basketball Falls at Home to Columbia College

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 102-59 to Columbia College on Thursday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 4-10 on the season and 1-5 in American Midwest Conference play while the Cougars improve to 11-4 and 5-1 in AMC play.

The Cougars would race out to an 8-0 lead before junior guard Justin Edwards (Corona, Calif./Oakwood University) would make a jumper to cut the deficit to 8-2. A layup from senior guard Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) would cut it to 11-4 in favor of the Cougars. A jumper from Kevin Jones would cut the deficit to 15-6. A 10-0 Cougars run would come to an end with an old fashioned three point play from Amos III to cut the deficit to 25-9. A jumper from sophomore guard Justin Coleman (St. Louis, Mo./Delta State University) cut the deficit to 28-11. A jumper from Coleman, a layup from Jones, Amos III and from senior guard Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) would close out the scoring for the Hornets in the first half with the Cougars leading 51-19.

In the second half, the first 12 points were split at six apiece giving the Cougars a 57-25 lead. Junior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) would cut it to 57-27 Cougars with a jumper. Jones would record an old fashioned three point play to cut the deficit to 66-32. A 15-6 run would push the Cougars lead to 81-38. The Cougars would close out the game with a 102-59 win.

Amos III would lead the Hornets with 14 points, while Chargois added 13 and Jones added 12. Chargois would lead with five rebounds. Amos III would add four assists. Six Hornets recorded two steals in the game.

The Hornets went 25-67 (37.3%) from the field, 2-19 (10.5%) from three and 7-11 (63.6%) from the free throw line.

The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, January 14th in the rescheduled game from January 7th against Missouri Baptist. The game against Missouri Baptist will be played at Missouri Baptist at 7:30 pm.
