Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 at Williams Baptist

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer fell 1-0 at Williams Baptist on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 5-6-2 on the season and 2-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eagles improve to 4-6-2 on the season and 2-0 in AMC play.

Senior goalkeeper Matheus Pereira da Silva (Santo Andre, SP, Brazil/Columbia College) kept the game scoreless with a save in the 16th minute. Sophomore forward Jovan Momic (Belgrade, Serbia/Kansas Wesleyan University) had a chance to put the Hornets on top, but would be denied the goal by the Eagles keeper in the 18th minute. Pereira da Silva would make another save in the 32nd minute to keep the game scoreless. The Eagles would be turned away once again by Pereira da Silva in the 41st minute as that kept the game scoreless going into halftime.

Momic would have a chance to give the Hornets the lead in the 68th minute as his shot went wide right. The Eagles would strike first in the 70th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Senior midfielder Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano, Italy/Liceo Galileo Galilei) would hit the post twice in the 79th minute just missing giving the Hornets a 2-1 lead. Junior defender Leonardo El Ayache (Naples, Italy/University of Northwestern Ohio) had a chance to tie the game in the 85th minute as his shot was saved.

Mori lead the way with three shots while Momic and El Ayache both recorded one shot on goal. Pereira da Silva made four saves in net.

The Hornets held a 15-10 advantage in shots and 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. The Eagles held a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The Hornets return to AMC action on Saturday, October 18th at Columbia College in Columbia, Mo. at 1:30 pm.
