Men's Soccer Picks Up Hard Fought 2-0 Win Against Central Baptist on Senior Day

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer picked up a 2-0 win over Central Baptist on Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Ritter High School. With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-6-2 on the season and 3-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Mustangs fall to 4-8-1 on the season and 0-4 in AMC play. 

Saturday was senior day and 11 seniors were honored before the game. The seniors were goalkeeper Kazuyuki Matsumto (Sanda, Japan/St. Charles Community College), forward Max Kannegieser (Bad Ems, Germany/Goethe-Gymnasium Bad Ems), defender Felix Egelkraut (Dessau-Rosslau, Germany/Walter Gropius Gymnasium, Dressau-Rosslau), midfielder Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano, Italy/Liceo Galileo Galilei), forward Kevin Lawson, II (Ypsilanti, Mich.), midfielder Matteo Rissato Prado (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Carl Sandburg College), forward Kyle Nicholls (Norwich, England/Mineral Area College), midfielder Gennaro Ammirati (Luni, Italy/Richland College), forward Mario De La Fuente (Madrid, Spain/Mid America Christian University), defender Jamie Ebeling (Lueneburg, Lower Saxony) and goalkeeper Matheus Pereira da Silva (Santo Andre, SP, Brazil/Columbia College).

Pereira da Silva would stop a shot in the second minute and sixth minute to keep the Mustangs off the board. Nicholls would go on a run before sending one towards the net and be turned away by the Mustangs keeper. Junior forward Adefolarin Adigun (Colchester, England/Moulsham High School) would send his header just wide in the 37th minute. The game would remain scoreless at halftime.

Mori would hit the crossbar in the 62nd minute and Adigun would clean up the rebound for his second goal of the season with Mori picking up the assist to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Pereira da Silva would keep the Mustangs off the board with a save in the 64th minute. Sophomore forward Samuel Guerrero (Santiago, Chile/South Kent School) would send a crossing pass thorugh the box that would find De La Fuente as he tapped home his sixth goal of the season to make it 2-0 in the 76th minute. Pereira da Silva would make saves in the 78th, 84th, and 86th minutes to keep the score 2-0.

Pereira da Silva would record six saves to get the win in goal and record the clean sheet. Mori, Nicholls and Adigun would record two shots each. De La Fuente, Adigun and Nicholls all recorded a shot on goal and De La Fuente scored on his only shot.

The Mustangs held a 12-9 advantage in shots, 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Hornets held a 5-2 advantage in corners.

The Hornets return to action on Wednesday, October 29th at 2:30 pm against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Lou Fusz Athletic Complex Field #10.
