CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer picked up a 5-0 win on a chilly Wednesday afternoon against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy at Lou Fusz Athletic Complex. With the win, the Hornets improve to 7-6-2 and 4-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eutectics fall to 1-14-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in AMC play.
Sophomore forward
Samuel Guerrero (Santiago, Chile/South Kent School) had a chance to get the Hornets on the board in the third minute as his shot would be stopped by the keeper of the Eutectics. Junior midfielder
Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano/Liceo Galileo Galilei) would find junior midfielder
Gennaro Ammirati (Luni, Italy/Richland College) in the 18th minute as Ammirati would find the back of the net from 25 yards out. After the Hornets would earn a corner kick, senior forward
Kyle Nicholls (Norwich, England/Mineral Area College) would bend the corner kick into the net making it 2-0 Hornets in the 26th minute. Junior forward
Adefolarin Adigun (Colchester, England/Moulsham High School) would be denied a goal in the 31st minute. Nicholls would draw a penalty in the box and would then score his second of the game on the penalty kick in the 38th minute.
After the ball bounced around sophomore defender Nicolas Wingren (Palma, Mallorca, Spain/IES s'Arenal) would find the net with a header from eight yards out to make it 4-0 Hornets in the 40th minute. Mori would send a pass through the box that would find senior forward
Mario De La Fuente (Madrid, Spain/Mid American Christian University) and De La Fuente would bury his seventh goal of the season to make it 5-0 Hornets in the 42nd minute.
The Hornets had chances in the second half to extend the lead, but were unable to find the back of the net. Junior defender
Vasco Bernardes (Cascais, Portugal/College of Southern Idaho) would have his shots in the 72nd and 73rd minutes stopped by the Eutectics keeper. Senior forward
Kevin Lawson, II (Ypsilanti, Mich.) would be denied a goal in the 74th minute.
Nicholls would lead the way with four shots. Bernardes and Nicholls recorded two shots on goal each. Senior goalkeepers
Matheus Pereira da Silva (Santo Andre, SP, Brazil/Columbia College) and
Kazuyuki Matsumoto (Sanda, Japan/St. Charles Community College) combined for the shutout in goal.
The Hornets held a 26-0 advantage in shots, 11-0 in shots on goal and 7-2 in corner kicks.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, October 31st at Columbia at 3 pm. The Columbia game is a rescheduled game from October 18th.
