HANNIBAL, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer picked up a 2-0 win at Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hornets improve to 4-4-2 on the season and 1-0 in American Midwest Conference play while the Trojans fall to 3-7-2 on the season and 0-1 in AMC play.
Sophomore forward
Samuel Guerrero (Santiago, Chile/South Kent School) would be turned away by the Trojans keeper in the 18th minute. Sophomore defender
Nicholas Wingren (Palma, Mallorca, Spain/IES s'Arenal) would have his shot turned away by the keeper in the 19th minute. Wingren would be turned away by the keeper in the 21st minute. Senior goalkeeper
Kazuyuki Matsumoto (Sanda, Japan/St. Charles Community College) would keep the game scoreless with a save in the 24th minute. Junior defender
David Casaneda (Cartago Valle del Cauca, Columbia/Coffeyville Community College) would be denied a goal by the keeper in the 27th minute. Guerrero would be denied again by the Trojans keeper in the 42nd minute. The game would remain scoreless going into halftime.
In the 71st minute, sophomore forward
Jovan Momic (Belgrade, Serbia/Kansas Wesleyan University) would bury his second goal of the season to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Junior defender Leornardo El Ayache (Naples, Italy/University of Northwestern Ohio) would be denied as a Trojans defender would keep the ball out of the net in the 77th minute. Senior midfielder
Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano, Italy/Liceo Galileo Galilei) would net his first goal of the season in the 81st minute to make it 2-0 Hornets. Matsumoto would keep it 2-0 in the 85th minute with a save.Â
El Ayache would record three shots. Wingren and Guerrero recorded two shots on goal each. Matsumoto made two saves for the clean sheet.
The Hornets had a 13-3 advantage in shots, 8-2 in shots on goal and 6-2 in corner kicks.
The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, October 7th at William Woods in Fulton, Mo. at 7 pm.
