NEW ORLEANS, La. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 89-81 at Southern University at New Orleans on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 0-1 on the season while the Knights start the season 1-0.

J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) gave the Lady Hornets a 2-0 lead with a jumper. Another jumper from Jordan made it 4-2. An 11-0 run by the Knights gave them a 13-4 lead. A jumper by sophomore guard
Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) cut the deficit to 13-6. A jumper and free throw by Montgomery cut the deficit to 17-9 with 3:30 left in the first quarter. Two free throws by junior
Janiya Jones and a jumper and a free throw by Montgomery cut the deficit to 19-14. A three by Montgomery trimmed the Knights lead to 23-17. A jumper by senior guard
Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) cut the deficit to 25-19. A free throw by Jones cut the deficit to 27-20 after one quarter of play.

Jayla Dixon cut the deficit to 32-24. A jumper and a three by Montgomery cut the Knights lead to 34-32 with just under five minutes to play in the second quarter. Two free throws by Montgomery gave the Lady Hornets a 36-34 lead. A jumper by Jordan made it 38-34. A three by Dilosa made it 41-37 Lady Hornets. The Knights closed the half on an 8-2 run to take a 45-43 lead into halftime.
A jumper by Dilosa tied the game at 45 early in the third quarter. A jumper from Montgomery tied the game at 47. Two free throws from Dixon gave the Lady Hornets a 49-48 lead. A jumper from Montgomery cut the deficit to 54-53. Two free throws by Jones gave the Lady Hornets a 56-54 lead. The Knights closed the quarter with a 9-2 run to take a 63-58 lead into the fourth.Â
A jumper by Hunter cut the deficit to 68-61. A jumper from Dilosa cut the deficit to 72-64 with 6:45 left in the fourth. A jumper from Dilosa trimmed the lead to 76-67. A three from Dilosa and from Montgomery cut the deficit to 89-81.
Montgomery led the way with a career-high 31 points while Dilosa added 20. Jones led the way with 10 rebounds. Dilosa added six assists in the game. Jones, Montgomery and Jordan all recorded two steals. Hunter and Jordan each recorded a block.Â
The Lady Hornets went 28-61 (45.9%) from the field, 5-13 (38.5%) from three and 20-30 (66.7%) at the free throw line.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Monday, November 3rd at 6 pm at Xavier University of Louisiana.
