ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 85-66 on Sunday afternoon against Missouri Valley College at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-5 on the season while the Vikings improve to 6-4.

Umar Lawson (Sumter, S.C./Voorhees University) and a jumper by senior center Dimitije Stojanovic (Nis, Serbia/Bethel University) gave the Hornets a 4-2 lead. A 6-0 run by the Vikings gave them an 8-4 lead. Two free throws from senior forward
Jalen Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Louis Community College) cut the deficit to 8-6. A layup by freshman forward
Nashawn Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Columbia College) cut the Vikings lead to 10-8. Back-to-back threes by junior guard
Shamar Carter (Inglewood, Calif./Moberly CC) tied the game at 14 with just under 10 and a half minutes to play in the first half. A 9-1 run by the Vikings would give them a 23-15 lead. A dunk by Lawson, a layup and free throw by sophomore guard
Antonio Trotter (Nashville, Tenn./Williams Baptist University) and a jumper by senior forward
Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) cut the Vikings lead to 23-22. A jumper and a three by junior guard
Adolphus Cast (Detroit, Mich./Schoolcraft College) helped tie the game at 27 with just under four minutes to play in the first half. A jumper and a free throw by Carter, a jumper by Cast and a layup Stojanovic would all score during the Hornets 7-0 run over the final 2:26 in the first half to give them a 34-33 lead going into halftime.
A jumper by Carter would tie the game at 37 early in the second half. A layup by Watson tied the game at 39 with 17 minutes to play. A layup by Davis cut the deficit to 44-41. Two jumpers and a free throw by Davis and a layup by Lawson cut the Vikings lead to 52-51 with 12:15 remaining. An 11-0 run by the Vikings pushed their lead to 63-51. A 5-0 run by the Hornets, Lawson scored all five points, cut the deficit to 63-56. A 14-0 run by the Vikings ballooned their lead to 77-56. A jumper by Lawson cut the deficit to 79-60 with just over two minutes to play. A three by sophomore guard
Esrom Tsegaye (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Christian) cut the deficit to 83-66 before the Vikings would pickup an 85-66 win.
Lawson led the way with 18 points on 8-10 shooting from the field while Carter added 11 points. Davis recorded eight rebounds. Lawson, Cast, Trotter and Davis all recorded two assists. Davis recorded three steals. Carter recorded two blocks.
The Hornets went 26-66 (39.4%) from the field, 4-20 (20%) from three and 10-17 (58.8%) from the free throw line.
The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, December 2nd at Emerson Performance Center against Bethel (Tenn.) University with tip off set for 7 pm.
