CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer picked up a 2-0 win on Wednesday afternoon at Lou Fusz Athletic Field #10 in the American Midwest Conference Tournament Quarterfinal over #6 seed Mission University. With the win, the Hornets improve to 8-6-3 on the season while the Patriots season ends with a 1-12-2 record.
Senior midfielder
Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano/Liceo Galileo Galilei) would have his shot turned away by the Patriots keeper in the 10th minute. Sophomore midfielder
Dusan Drca (Belgrade, Serbia/Hill Community College) would have his shot denied by the keeper in the 15th minute. Junior forward
Adefolarin Adigun (Colchester, England/Moulsham High School) would be denied in the 18th minute. Senior forward
Mario De La Fuente (Madrid, Spain/Mid America Christian University) would be denied his eighth goal in the 32nd minute.
The Hornets would break through in 34th minute when Mori would send a cross into the box and find the foot of sophomore forward
Jovan Momic (Belgrade, Serbia/Kansas Wesleyan University) as Momic found the back of the net for the fifth time this season to make it 1-0 Hornets. Senior midfielder
Matteo Rissato Prado (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Carl Sandburg College) would be denied a goal by the Patriots keeper in the 41st minute. De La Fuente would be denied again in the 44th minute as the Hornets held a 1-0 lead into the half.
Mori would extend the lead to 2-0 after Rissato Prado was able to find him at the top of the 18 yard box in the 49th minute. Senior forward
Max Kannegieser (Bad Ems, Germany/Goethe-Gymnasium Bad Ems) would have a chance to extend the lead as his shot was stopped by the keeper. Adigun would have a chance on the 72nd and 80th minutes to extend the lead as both shots were stopped by the keeper.
Adigun would record five shots in the match and four shots on goal.
The Hornets held a 37-1 advantage in shots, 17-0 advantage in shots on goal and 7-0 in corner kicks.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday, November 8th at 1 pm against the #2 seed Williams Baptist University in Walnut Ridge, Ark. for the AMC Tournament Semifinal.
