Hornets Basketball Falls to Gorloks

WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 83-64 to Webster University on Saturday afternoon in the Gorlok Classic. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 2-10 on the season while the Gorloks improve to 8-2 on the season.

The Gorloks would jump out to an early 4-0 lead. A jumper from senior forward Jalen Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Louis Community College) cut the deficit to 4-2. A jumper from junior guard Shamar Carter (Inglewood, Calif./Moberly CC) cut the deficit to 6-4. Another bucket from Watson cut the deficit to 8-6. A layup by freshman forward Nashawn Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Columbia College) cut the deficit to 10-8. A layup from Watson cut the deficit to 12-10. Back-to-back jumpers from Watson tied the game at 14. A jumper from sophomore guard Umar Lawson (Sumter, S.C./Voorhees University) cut the deficit to 22-17. A floater from Lawson cut the deficit to 22-19. A 14-0 run by the Gorloks pushed their lead to 36-19. A jumper from Watson cut the deficit to 36-21. A layup from Lawson cut the deficit to 40-23. Two free throws by sophomore guard Antonio Trotter (Nashville, Tenn./Williams Baptist University) cut the deficit to 46-27. A layup by senior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) cut the deficit to 48-29. A layup by Davis cut the deficit to 53-31 going into halftime.

A three by Davis cut the Gorloks lead to 57-36 early in the second half. A floater by Davis cut the deficit to 57-38. A three by Davis cut the deficit to 64-41. A jumper from Lampley cut the deficit to 66-43. A jumper by Lampley cut the deficit to 71-46 with just under 12 minutes to play. A layup by Davis cut the Gorloks lead to 77-49 with just under nine minutes to play. A jumper by Lampley cut the deficit to 79-54. A jumper by sophomore guard Jason Freeman (Atlanta, Ga./William Woods University) cut the deficit to 79-56. A jumper from Lampley cut the deficit to 81-58. Two free throws from freshman guard Christian Dake (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North High School) cut the deficit to 81-60. A floater from sophomore guard Terrance Johnson (San Antonio, Texas/Northwest Kansas Tech)  and a layup by Dake would could the deficit to 83-64.

Davis led the way with 15 points while Watson added 12 and Lampley added 11. Davis recorded 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Carter added four assists. Senior forward Benjamin Rumanyika (Buckeye, Ariz./Voorhees University) recorded three steals. Watson added two blocks.

Carter and Davis were the two Hornets named to the All-Tournament Team at the Gorlok Classic.

The Hornets went 26-69 (37.7%) from the field, 2-16 (12.5%) from three and 10-19 (52.6%) from the free throw line.

The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, December 16th at 7 pm at Maryville University in Creve Coeur, Mo.
