Lady Hornets Basketball Picks Up 61-48 Win Over Hannibal-LaGrange

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball picked up a 61-48 win on Monday night at Emerson Performance Center against Hannibal-LaGrange University. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in American Midwest Conference play while the Trojans fall to 2-7 and 

Senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would give the Lady Hornets an early 2-0 lead that would be the start of a 7-0 by the Lady Hornets. A three by sophomore forward Aliva Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would score the next five points with a three and a layup. A jumper by Jordan would extend the lead to 9-2 in favor of the Lady Hornets. A jumper by Jordan would give the Lady Hornets an 11-9 lead going to the second quarter.

A layup by Montgomery would push the lead to 13-9 early in the second quarter. Two free throws from Montgomery pushed the lead to 15-9. A layup by sophomore guard Jayla Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis ) pushed the lead to 17-13. A layup by Montgomery, a jumper by Jordan and a three by Jackson would be apart of the Lady Hornets 7-0 run to push the lead to 24-15 going into halftime.

The Trojans started the third quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 26-24 lead. A three and two jumpers by Montgomery propelled the Lady Hornets back in front at 31-26. A three by senior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) pushed the lead to 34-29. A three by Jackson pushed the lead to 37-34. A layup and a two free throws by Dilosa pushed the lead to 41-36. A jumper  by junior Janiya Jones pushed the lead to 43-36. A layup by Montgomery pushed the lead to 45-38 going into the fourth. 

Two free throws by Jordan pushed the lead to 47-42. A three by Montgomery pushed the lead to 50-44 with just over five minutes to play. A jumper by Montgomery and a three by Dilosa pushed the lead to 55-46 with 3:02 remaining. Three free throws by Dilosa closed the scoring as the Lady Hornets picked up a 61-48 win.

Montgomery led the way with 27 points while Dilosa added 13 and Jordan added 10. Jordan and senior Jayla Dixon recorded six rebounds. Montgomery led the way with six assists. Senior forward Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) and Jordan recorded three blocks. Jordan recorded three steals.

The Lady Hornets went 22-61 (36.1%) from the field, 7-20 (35.0%) from three and 10-14 (71.4%) from the line.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Thursday, December 11th at 5:30 pm at Central Baptist University in Conway, Ark.
