Hornets Basketball Falls at Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 95-75 at Columbia on Thursday night. With the loss, the Hornet fall to 7-17 on the season and 4-12 in American Midwest Conference play while the Cougars improve to 20-6 on the season and 13-3 in AMC play.

A layup from junior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) cut the Cougars lead to 3-2. A three from senior guard Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) would give the Hornets a 5-3 lead. Two free throws from senior guard Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) extended the lead to 7-3. A jumper from Amos III made it 9-6 Hornets. A layup from junior forward Koran Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) would make it 13-10 Hornets. A 12-0 run by the Cougars would end on a jumper from senior guard Kevin Jones (Sikeston, Mo./Dakota State University) and cut the deficit to 22-15. A layup from senior forward Keondre Brown (Los Angeles, Calif./Grandview University) would cut the deficit to 25-17. A jumper from Lampley cut the deficit to 35-23. A three from Jones cut the deficit to 38-26. Two free throws from Chargois cut the Cougars lead to 48-30. The Cougars would hold a 51-33 lead at halftime.

A layup from Amos III cut the deficit to 51-35. A three from Lampley cut the Cougars lead to 53-38. A layup from Jones cut it to 56-40. Two free throws from Amos III cut the deficit to 59-42. A layup and free throw from junior guard Brandon Vigne (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) cut the deficit to 63-47. Two free throw from Chargois cut the deficit to 70-49. A dunk and a layup from Lampley cut the deficit to 70-53. A three from Amos III cut the deficit to 74-56. A jumper from Chargois cut the Cougars lead to 81-62. A three from Amos III cut the deficit to 89-67. Chargois would score seven of the last eight points for the Hornets.

Amos III and Chargois would record 19 points each while Lampley added 18. Amos III and Chargois would record six rebounds each. Amos III would dish out six assists. Amos III would record a block. Junior guard Justin Edwards (Corona, Calif./Oakwood University) would record three steals.

The Hornets went 27-59 (45.8%) from the field, 7-17 (41.2%) from three and 14-17 (82.4%) from the free throw line.

The Hornets return to action on Thursday, February 20th at 7:30 pm at Mission University in Springfield, Mo.
