Lady Hornets Basketball Falls at Mission

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 89-74 to Mission on Thursday night. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 6-20 on the season and 5-16 in American Midwest Conference play while the Lady Patriots improve to 20-5 on the season and 17-4 in AMC play.

Freshman guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) made a layup to tie the game at two. A jumper from freshman guard Jayla Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) cut the deficit to 6-4. An 11-0 run by the Lady Patriots -extended their lead to 17-4. A layup from junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) cut the deficit to 17-6. A jumper and free throw from senior guard Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) cut the Lady Patriots lead to 19-9. A layup from junior forward Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) and a free throw from senior forward Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) helped cut the deficit to 21-12 before the Lady Patriots held a 24-12 lead after the first quarter.

A jumper from Toree Jackson cut the deficit to 24-14. A jumper and two free throws from Montgomery cut the deficit to 26-18. Two free throws from Dilosa cut the deficit to 26-20. A layup by Swire cut the Lady Patriots lead to 28-24. A layup from freshman forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) cut the deficit to 36-30. A layup by Swire cut the deficit to five. An 8-3 Lady Patriots run gave them a 45-35 lead at halftime.

Two free throws from Dilosa cut the deficit to 49-37. A jumper from Dilosa cut the deficit to 53-39. A jumper and two free throws from Toree Jackson cut the Lady Patriots lead to 62-44. A jumper from Jayla Jackson cut the deficit to 62-46. A jumper, a free throw and a layup from Swire cut the deficit to 64-51. A jumper from Dilosa cut the Lady Patriots lead to 66-54 going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Patriots started the fourth quarter on an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 74-56. Two free throws from Swire and a layup from Toree Jackson cut the deficit to 74-60. A layup from Toree Jackson cut the deficit to 82-64. Two free throws from Davis cut the Lady Patriots lead to 87-69. Montgomery would make a jumper and a three to close out the scoring in the game.

Swire led the way with 22 points off the bench, Montgomery added 15, Toree Jackson added 14 and Dilosa added 12. Toree Jackson recorded nine rebounds while Davis added eight. Dilosa had three assists. Senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) recorded two blocks and three steals.

The Lady Hornets went 26-70 (37.1%) from the field, 1-5 (20%) from three and 21-27 (77.8%) from the free throw line. 

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, February 22nd at 1 pm against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy at Emerson Performance Center. Saturday will be senior day. Senior day will take place after the women's game and before the men's game.
