ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball falls 15-14 in hard fought game against Rust College on Wednesday afternoon at Stars Park. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 4-18 on the season while Rust improves to 10-14.
Sophomore catcher
Dima Cornell-Neal (Trumbull, Ct.) would hit a home run to right center to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Senior outfielder
Jeremy Kelly (Oranjestad, Aruba) would get hit by pitch. Junior middle infielder
Michael Khatkar (Vancouver, Canada) would triple home Kelly to make it 2-0. Freshman centerfielder
Adrian Martinez (Davie, Fla.) would single home Khatkar to make it 3-0. Martinez would score on an error to make it 4-0.
The Bearcats would score seven in the top of the third to take a 7-4 lead. Senior first baseman
Stephen Huggins (Gulf Breeze, Fla.), senior outfielder
Skywalker Mann (Lee's Summit, Mo.), and freshman catcher
Jayden Matthews (Fayetteville, Ark.) would all walk to start the bottom of the third. Kelly would single home Huggins to cut the Bearcats lead to 7-5. Senior third baseman
Malvin Gutierrez (Harlem, New York) would walk to score Mann. Sophomore second baseman
Jordan Bradley (St. Louis, Mo.) would hit a sacrifice fly to score freshman outfielder
Yabnel Mojica (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) to tie the game at seven as Mojica ran for Matthews.
Senior shortstop
Austin Martin (Roxana, Ill.) would walk to start the bottom of the fourth. Martin would end up stealing second. Mann would give the Hornets a 9-7 lead with a two-run home run to left. The Bearcats would score one in the fifth and seven in the sixth to go ahead 15-9.
Senior outfielder
Za'Maree Tillman (Bakesfield, Calif.) was it by pitch to start the bottom of the sixth. Huggins would hit a two-run home run to make it 15-11 in favor of the Bearcats. Mann would single to left. Matthews would reach on an infield single. Kelly walked to load the bases.
Mann would score on a wild pitch to cut it to 15-12. Bradley would double home Kelly and Mojica to cut it to 15-14.
Mann would lead the way with two hits, while Martin, Tillman, Huggins, Cornell-Neal, Matthews, Kelly, Khatkar, Bradley, and Martinez all recorded on hit. Bradley recorded three runs batted in while Mann and Huggins had two and Kelly, Gutierrez, Cornell-Neal, Khatkar and Martinez had one.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, March 21st at 12 and 2 pm against Central Baptist College at Stars Park.
