CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball fell 14-3 in game one and 12-2 in game two at Missouri Baptist on Saturday afternoon. With the losses, the Hornets fall to 6-28 on the season and 4-24 in American Midwest Conference play while the Spartans improve to 32-9 on the season and 27-5 in AMC play.
In game one, the Spartans scored four runs in the first, three in the second, six in the third and one in the fourth to hold a 14-0 lead after four innings of play.
In the top of the sixth, freshman centerfielder
Adrian Martinez (Davie, Fla.) walked with one out. Senior shortstop
Austin Martin (Roxana, Ill.) was hit by pitch. Sophomore catcher
Dima Cornell-Neal (Trumbull, Ct.) walked to load the bases with two outs. Senior outfielder
Skywalker Mann (Lee's Summit, Mo.) reached on an error to score Martinez. Freshman catcher
Jayden Matthews (Fayetteville, Ark.) singled to center as Martin and freshman middle infielder
Khalil Smith (Memphis, Tenn.), running for Cornell-Neal, would score to make it 14-3 Spartans.
Matthews and sophomore second baseman
Jordan Bradley (St. Louis, Mo.) would record a hit. Matthews would record two runs batted in.
In game two, Matthews would single with two outs in the first. Junior utility player
Sam Britton (St. Louis, Mo.) would run for Matthews. Mann would single to center. Senior outfielder
Jeremy Kelly (Oranjestad, Aruba) singled down the rightfield line scoring Britton to make it 1-0 Hornets.
The Spartans would tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. In the third, senior outfielder
Za'Maree Tillman reached second on an error and moved to third on a ground out. Mann would record a sacrifice fly to score Tillman to make it 2-1 in favor of the Hornets.
The Spartans would score one in the third to tie the game at two. A 10 run fourth for the Spartans gave them a 12-2 lead.
Tillman, Matthews, Mann, Kelly and Britton all recorded a hit. Mann and Kelly each recorded an RBI.
The Hornets return to action next Friday, April 18th against Mission University at Stars Park. Game times are TBD.
