O'FALLON, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball fell 7-0 in game one and 13-1 in game two against Mission on Thursday afternoon at Carshield Field. With the losses, the Hornets fall to 6-30 on the season and 4-26 in American Midwest Conference play while the Patriots improve to 26-16 on the season and 19-11 in AMC play.
In game one, the Patriots scored one run in the first, four in the second and two in the seventh.Â
Senior first baseman Stephens Huggins (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and freshman centerfielder
Adrian Martinez (Davie, Fla.) recorded two hits each while senior outfielder
Skywalker Mann (Lee;s Summit, Mo.) and senior outfielder
Jeremy Kelly (Oranjestad, Aruba) added one hit each.
In game two, the Patriots scored one in the first, five in the second, two in the fifth and five in the sixth.Â
In the bottom of the seventh, senior third baseman
Malvin Gutierrez (Harlem, New York) doubled to start the inning. Junior first baseman
Logan Schwerdt (Saint Peters, Mo.) walked. A fielders choice and error would force out Gutierrez and move Schwerdt to third. A single by senior shortstop
Austin Martin (Roxana, Ill.) would score Schwerdt.
Martin would lead the way with two hits while Schwerdt, Gutierrez, Mann, and senior outfielder
Za'Maree Tillman (Bakersfield, Calif.) would record one hit each.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, April 18th at 11 am and 1:30 pm against Mission at Stars Park. Tomorrow is senior day. Senior day festivities will begin at 10:30 am.
