Men's Soccer Picks Up Hard Fought 2-1 Win at Central Methodist

FAYETTE, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer picked up a hard fought 2-1 win at Davis Field on the campus of Central Methodist University on Tuesday night. With the win, the Hornets improve to 1-1 on the season while the Eagles fall to 0-1-1.

Senior goalkeeper Matheus Pereira da Silva (Santo Andre, SP, Brazil/Columbia College) would make his first save of the night in the 21st minute to keep the game tied at zero. 

In the 35th minute, senior forward Mario Garcia De La Fuente (Madrid, Spain/Mid America Christian University) would strike for the Hornets giving them a 1-0 lead senior midfielder Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano, Italy/Liceo Galileo Galilei) and sophomore forward Jovan Momic (Belgrade, Serbia/Kansas Wesleyan University) would pick up assists on the goal. Just 81 seconds later De La Fuente would score his second of the game off of a Momic assist to make it 2-0 Hornets. The Eagles would cut the lead in half with a goal in the 38th minute. The Hornets would take a 2-1 lead into the half.

Pereira da Silva would keep the game at 2-1 with a save in the 54th, 60th and 86th minutes. In the 88th minute, senior midfielder Matteo Risato Prado (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Carl Sandburg College) would be denied by the Eagles keeper.

The Eagles would hold a 19-9 advantage in shots. Shots on goal would finish at five for each team. The Eagles held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, August 30th at 5 pm at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo.
