ST. LOUS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball lost to Central Baptist in four sets (21-25, 25-12, 18-25, 19-25) and beat Mission in five sets (25-23, 18-25, 20-25, 25-22, 17-15) on Saturday at Emerson Performance Center. With the split, the Lady Hornets are now 5-8 on the season and 3-2 in American Midwest Conference play.

Central Baptist Match:
A kill by freshman outside hitter Renise Powell tied set one at one. Junior outside hitter Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic) cut the deficit to 3-2. A 6-2 run pushed the Mustangs lead to 9-4. A kill by Powell cut the deficit to 9-8. Back-to-back kills from sophomore middle hitter Jehireh Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Althoff Catholic) cut the deficit to 11-10. A 5-0 Mustangs run pushed their lead to 16-10 and forced a Lady Hornets timeout. A block by Williams and junior right side Trinity Edison (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Central) and a service ace by junior defensive specialist Alexis Kemp (Kansas City, Mo./University Academy) cut the deficit to 16-13. A kill by Williams, a kill by McReynolds, a kill by sophomore middle hitter Saniah Files (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) and a kill by McReynolds cut the deficit to 18-17 and forced a Mustangs timeout. The Mustangs closed the set on a 7-4 run.

Back-to-back kills by Edison gave the Lady Hornets an early 2-0 lead in set two. A kill by Edison followed by a block from Edison and Files made it 4-2 Lady Hornets. A kill by Files pushed the lead to 7-3. A kill by senior outside hitter A'nyla Watson (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock) and a block by Watson and Williams pushed the lead to 11-5. A block by Williams and Edison made it 15-7 Lady Hornets. A kill by Williams, a service ace by freshman defensive specialist Mya Hendrix, an attack error by the Mustangs, and a kill by McReynolds pushed the lead to 22-10. Files closed the set with a kill to give the Lady Hornets a 25-12 set two win and tie the match at one.

A service ace by junior setter Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson), a block by Williams and an attack error gave the Lady Hornets a 3-0 lead in set three. A kill by Watson and an attack error made it 8-5 Lady Hornets. A 7-1 run gave the Mustangs a 12-9 lead. A kill by Powell, a ball handling error by the Mustangs and a kill by Williams tied the set at 12. A kill by Files cut the deficit to 16-15. A 9-3 run by the Mustangs gave them a 25-18 set three win and 2-1 lead in the match.

A kill by Williams and an ace by Hendrix tied set four at three. A kill by Edison, an attack error by the Mustangs, a kill by McReynolds and an attack error by the Mustangs gave the Lady Hornets a 7-6 lead. A kill by Williams tied the set at 10. The Mustangs would use a 6-0 run to go from down 13-11 to up 17-13. A kill by Watson cut the deficit to 19-16. The Mustangs closed on a 6-3 run to take set four 25-19 and the match three sets to one. 

Williams and McReynolds each recorded 10 kills, junior defensive specialist Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) recorded 17 digs and with those 17 digs she reached 500 digs in her collegiate career, Smith recorded 22 assists while sophomore setter Jayla Payne (San Antonio, Texas/ Wagner) added 16 assists, Williams added one solo block and four block assists, Smith, Hendrix and Kemp recorded two service aces apiece. McReynolds recorded her third double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs.

Mission Match:
A kill by Powell, McReynolds, back-to-back errors by the Patriots, a kill by McReynolds and a block by Files and McReynolds had the Lady Hornets up 6-1 in set one. A kill by McReynolds and a block by Files and McReynolds pushed the lead to 8-3. A kill by Williams pushed the lead to 13-9. A 4-0 Patriots run gave them a 15-14 lead. A kill by Watson, a block by Williams and Watson, an attack error by the Patriots, a service ace by Foster, a bad set by the Patriots, a block by Watson and Williams and an attack error by the Patriots gave the Lady Hornets a 23-22 lead. A kill by Watson and Powell closed out set one for the Lady Hornets 25-23.

The Lady Hornets started out 3-0 in set two. A 10-1 run by the Patriots gave them a 10-4. A kill by Williams, an ace by Hendrix, an attack error by the Patriots, another ace by Hendrix and another attack error by the Patriots cut the deficit to 10-9. A 5-0 Patriots run pushed the lead to 15-9. A kill by Watson cut the deficit to 18-15. A 7-3 run by the Patriots closed set two 25-18 and tied the match at one. 

A kill by Williams, a block by Edison and a service ace by Hendrix gave the Lady Hornets a 4-2 lead in set three. A block by Files cut the deficit to 8-7. A service ace by Smith put the Lady Hornets up 10-9. A kill by McReynolds and an attack error by the Patriots had set three tied at 18. A 7-2 run by the Mustangs gave them a 25-20 set three win and 2-1 lead in the match.

A kill by Edison, a block by Files and Edison, a service ace by Hendrix, a kill by McReynolds, an attack error by the Patriots, and another ace by Hendrix put the Lady Hornets up 7-5 in set four. A kill by Files and Foster tied the set at 12. A kill by Powell and a block by McReynolds and Files gave the Lady Hornets a 15-14 lead. A kill by Edison and two consecutive blocks by Edison and Files made it 18-16 Lady Hornets. A block by Powell and Files pushed the lead to 22-18. A kill by Powell would close out set four 25-22 for the Lady Hornets and force a fifth and deciding set.

A block by Williams tied set five at two. An attack error by the Patriots, a bad set, another attack error by the Patriots and an ace by Hendrix gave the Lady Hornets a 6-4 lead and forced a Patriots timeout. A 6-2 run by the Patriots gave them a 10-8 lead. A block by Files followed by a kill from Powell made it 12-11 Lady Hornets. A kill by Powell tied the set at 13. Two consecutive kill by Powell turned a 14-13 deficit into a 15-14 lead. A kill by Powell followed by McReynolds gave the Lady Hornets a 17-15 set five win and a match win. 

McReynolds led the way with 13 kills while Powell recorded a career-high 12 kills. Smith recorded 17 assists. Foster recorded 16 digs while McReynolds added 13 digs. Hendrix led the way with five service aces. Files recorded three solo blocks and seven block assists. The Lady Hornets recorded eight solo blocks and 22 block assists for a season-high 19 total blocks. McReynolds recorded her second double-double of the day, third of the week and fourth of the season.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, September 26th at 6 pm against Crowley's Ridge in AMC play at Emerson Performance Center.
