ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball picked up a straight set win (25-14, 25-23, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon against Williams Baptist University at Emerson Performance Center. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 6-9 on the season and 4-3 in American Midwest Conference play while the Lady Eagles fall to 1-14 on the season and 0-7 in AMC play.

Renise Powell, back-to-back attack errors by the Lady Eagles, another kill by Powell, a kill by Edison, a bad set by the Lady Eagles and another kill by Edison made it 10-5 Lady Hornets and forced a Lady Eagles timeout. After the timeout, the Lady Hornets continued their scoring run after back-to-back attack errors by the Lady Eagles, back-to-back service aces by freshman defensive specialist

Kaelin Rubin (Kennedale, Texas/Kennedale) cut the deficit to 6-5. A 4-0 Lady Eagles run pushed their lead to 10-5 and forced a Harris-Stowe timeout. Out of the timeout, Dowell record consecutive kills to cut the deficit to 10-7. A block by Williams, a kill by Edison and another block by Williams cut the deficit to 12-11 and forced a timeout by the Lady Eagles. After the timeout, junior setter
Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) tied set two with a service ace and a kill by McReynolds made it 13-12 Lady Hornets. Back-to-back kills by Rubin and an attack error by the Lady Eagles pushed the lead to 17-14. A service ace by sophomore setter
Jayla Payne (San Antonio, Texas/Wagner) made it 19-15. A block by Dowell and Rubin followed by an attack error by the Lady Eagles pushed the Lady Hornets lead to 21-16. A 5-1 Lady Eagles run cut the Lady Hornets lead to 22-21. A kill by Williams would give the Lady Hornets a 25-23 set two win.

Serenity Baker (Desoto, Texas/Desoto) tied the set at eight. A kill by Foster tied the set at 11. A kill by Dowell and an attack error by the Lady Eagles gave the Lady Hornets a 14-13 lead. A block by sophomore middle hitter
Jada Anderson (Jefferson City, Mo./Capital City) and a bad set by the Lady Eagles gave the Lady Hornets an 18-17 lead. A 4-0 Lady Eagles gave them a 21-18 lead. An attack error by the Lady Eagles and a kill by Powell cut the deficit to 21-20. A kill by Edison, back-to-back attack errors by the Lady Eagles, a block by Baker and Dowell and an attack error by the Lady Eagles gave the Lady Hornets a 25-22 set three win and the sweep.
Edison and Dowell recorded nine kills each, which was a career-high for Dowell. Smith recorded 22 assists while Payne recorded 10. Foster recorded a team-high 12 digs. Williams recorded three solo blocks and one block assist. Hendrix recorded two service aces.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Monday, September 29th at 6 pm at the Emerson Performance Center as they continue AMC play against Columbia College.Â
