Volleyball Falls to Columbia

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball fell in three sets (11-25, 19-25, 20-25) to Columbia College on Monday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 6-10 on the season and 4-4 in American Midwest Conference play while the Cougars improve to 6-11 on the season and 5-1 in AMC play.

A kill by sophomore middle hitter Jehireh Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Althoff Catholic) tied set one at two. A kill by freshman outside hitter Renise Powell cut the deficit to 7-3. An 8-1 Cougars run pushed their lead to 15-4. A kill by freshman right side Codi Thompson cut the deficit to 17-6. A block by Williams cut the deficit to 22-9. A kill by Powell and a block by junior right side Trinity Edison (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Central) and junior middle hitter Saniah Files (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) cut the deficit to 23-11. The Cougars would close the set 25-11.

A kill by Edison and Powell tied set two at two. An attack error by the Cougars, a kill by junior outside hitter Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic), a block by senior outside hitter A'nyla Watson (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock) and freshman middle blocker Kourtlyn Dowell, a kill by McReynolds and a service ace by junior defensive specialist Alexis Kemp (Kansas City, Mo./University Academy) propelled the Lady Hornets to a 9-6 lead. A kill by Watson made it 10-7 Lady Hornets. A kill by Edison made it 12-9. A kill by Edison tied the set at 13. A kill by Watson cut the deficit to 18-17. The Cougars closed the set on a 7-2 run to take set two 25-19.

A block by McReynolds and Williams cut the Cougars lead to 3-2 in the third set. A block by Williams and Edison and an attack error by the Cougars cut the deficit to 5-4. A service ace by sophomore setter Jayla Payne (San Antonio, Texas/Wagner) cut the deficit to 8-6. Back-to-back kills by McReynolds cut the deficit to 11-9. A kill by junior defensive specialist Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) cut the deficit to 13-10. A service ace by Kemp cut the deficit to 23-18. The Cougars would take set three 25-20.

McReynolds led the way with six kills, Payne led with seven assists, Kemp recorded two service aces, Foster had a team-high 12 digs, Williams recorded three total blocks.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, October 4th at 1 pm against Williams Baptist at Cottey and at 3 pm at Cottey.
