ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball picked up a 103-99 win on Thursday night at the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy. With the win, the Hornets improve to 4-14 on the season and 1-6 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eutectics fall to 3-16 on the season and 0-6 AMC play.

Layups from freshman forward Nashawn Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Columbia College) and senior forward Benjamin Rumanyika (Buckeye, Ariz./Voorhees University) gave the Hornets an early 4-0 lead. A layup from Davis extended the lead to 6-1. A jumper from sophomore guard Umar Lawson (Sumter, S.C./Voorhees University) made it 8-5 Hornets. Two free throws from Lawson put the Hornets back on top at 10-8 with 15:10 left in the first half. A layup from Lawson and from junior center Dimitrije Stojanovic (Nis, Serbia/Bethel University) extended the Hornets lead to 14-8. A three from junior guard Adolphus Cast (Detroit, Mich./Schoolcraft College) pushed the lead to 17-13. An old fashioned three point play from senior forward Jalen Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Louis Community College) extended the Hornets lead to 20-16. A jumper from Lawson gave the Hornets a 22-18 lead with 11:26 to play in the first half. Two free throws from Davis cut the deficit to 29-28. A layup from sophomore guard Jason Freeman (Atlanta, Ga./William Woods University) cut the deficit to 32-30.Â

A layup from Lawson cut the Eutectics lead to 38-35 with 5:08 remaining in the first half. A layup from Daivs gave the Hornets a 40-39 lead. A 10-0 Eutectics run gave them a 49-40 lead before a three from freshman guard Christian Dake (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) halted the run. A layup from sophomore guard Antonio Trotter (Nashville, Tenn./Williams Baptist University) cut the Eutectics lead to 51-47 going into halftime.

A jumper from Rumanyika cut the Eutectics lead to 54-51 early in the second half. Two layups from Lawson, a layup from Davis and from Trotter gave the Hornets a 59-58 lead with 16:30 to play in the game. A three from Cast cut the deficit to 67-65. A layup from Cast cut the Eutectics lead to 78-72. After an offensive rebound by Trotter, a three from Trotter cut the deficit to 78-75. Two free throws from Davis trimmed the deficit to one.Â

Layups from Lawson and Davis tied the game at 81. A three from Lawson and a layup by Davis gave the Hornets an 86-85 lead. A jumper from Watson put the Hornets on top 88-86 with 4:27 to play. A three from Lawson pushed the Hornets lead to 93-88. Two free throws and a jumper from Watson and a free throw from Davis pushed the Hornets lead to 98-92. A dunk from Lawson helped the Hornets reach the century mark for the first time this season. Two free throws from Cast would give the Hornets a 102-97 lead. A free throw from Davis made it 103-99 and sealed the win for the Hornets.

Lawson led the way with a career-high 33 points while Davis added a career-high 30 points while Watson added 11 and Cast added 10. Stojanovic recorded seven rebounds. Lawson dished out a career-high nine assists. Rumanyika recorded two blocks. Davis and Stojanovic recorded two steals each.

The Hornets went 39-71 (54.9%) from the field, 6-18 (33.3%) from three and 19-32 (59.4%) from the free throw line. The 103 points are the most this season for the Hornets and it's the first time the Hornets have scored 100 or more points since they did it on February 22, 2025 in a 101-67 win at Emerson Performance Center against the Eutectics.
