Lady Hornets Pick Up 63-38 Road Win Over Hannibal-LaGrange

 

HANNIBAL, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball picked up a 63-38 win at Hannibal-LaGrange on Thursday night. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 4-11 on the season and 3-6 in American Midwest Conference play while the Trojans fall to 5-14 on the season and 2-8 in AMC play. 

 

The Lady Hornets have won the last three against the Trojans.

 

Senior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would give the Lady Hornets an early 3-0 lead. Junior forward Janiya Jones (Jackson, Tenn.) extended the lead to 9-2 with two layups and a jumper. A jumper from sophomore guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) extended the lead to 11-5. A jumper from sophomore forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North), a layup from Dilosa, a layup from Davis and a free throw from senior Jayla Dixon extended the Lady Hornets lead to 18-5 after one quarter of play. The Lady Hornets used two separate 7-0 runs in the quarter.

 

 A layup from Dilosa extended the lead to 20-5 early in the second quarter with a layup. A three from Montgomery and a layup from Dilosa pushed the Lady Hornets lead to 25-6. A three from Montgomery extended the lead to 28-8 with 8:00 left in the second quarter. A layup from sophomore forward Armani Bingham (St. Louis, Mo./Clyde C. Miller) extended the lead to 30-8. A layup from Davis extended the lead to 32-14. A layup from Montgomery made it 34-16 Lady Hornets. A jumper from Dilosa extended the lead to 36-19. The Lady Hornets held a 36-20 lead at halftime.

 

The Trojans used an 8-0 run to start the third quarter to cut the Lady Hornets lead to 36-28. A three from Dilosa extended the lead to 39-28. Another three from Dilosa extended the Lady Hornets lead to 42-31. A three from Dilosa and a layup from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) pushed the Lady Hornets lead to 47-34 after three quarters of play.

 

A layup from Davis extended the Lady Hornets lead to 49-34 early in the fourth quarter. A layup from Dilosa, two layups from Montgomery, two free throws and a layup from Dixon, two free throws by Dilosa, two free throws from Bingham were apart of a 14-0 run over a 5:36 stretch to open the Lady Hornets lead to 63-36 before picking up the 63-38 win.

 

Dilosa led the way with a game-high 24 points while Montgomery added 14. Dixon led the way with eight rebounds. Montgomery dished out seven assists. Jordan recorded a game-high four blocks. Dilosa recorded a team-high three steals.

 

The Lady Hornets went 25-63 (39.7%) from the field, 6-22 (27.3%) from three and 7-12 (58.3%) at the free throw line. 

 

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, January 31st at 1 pm against Central Baptist College in AMC play at Emerson Performance Center.
