Lady Hornets Basketball Falls at Mission

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 91-63 on Thursday night at Mission University. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-8 on the season and 1-3 in American Midwest Conference play while the Lady Patriots improve to 7-7 on the season and 3-1 in AMC play. 

A three by sophomore guard Aliva Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) cut the Lady Patriots lead to 4-3 early in the first quarter. Back-to-back layups by Montgomery cut the deficit to 11-7. The Lady Patriots would go on an 8-0 run over the final 4:23 to close out the quarter with a 19-7 lead.

 A jumper by junior Janiya Jones cut the deficit to 19-9 early in the second quarter. A jumper from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) cut the deficit to 22-11. A layup from Jordan cut the deficit to 29-13. A jumper by sophomore forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) cut the Lady Patriots lead to 34-15. The Lady Patriots would close the quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 45-17 lead to the half.

A three by senior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) cut the deficit to 49-20 early in the third quarter. A jumper by senior forward Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) cut the deficit to 51-22. A layup and free throw by Montgomery cut the deficit to 54-25. A jumper by Montgomery cut the Lady Patriots lead to 56-27. A layup by Jordan cut the deficit to 58-29. Dilosa ended a 7-0 run by the Lady Patriots with a layup to cut the deficit to 65-31. The Lady Patriots took a 69-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

Two free throws by Dilosa cut the deficit to 71-33 early in the fourth quarter. A jumper by Jordan cut the deficit to 73-35. A layup by Montgomery cut the deficit to 77-37. A three from Montgomery, a three from Dilosa and a layup by Jordan cut the deficit to 79-45. A three by Dilosa, a free throw and layup by Montgomery, back-to-back layups by Jordan, a layup by Montgomery, a layup by Hunter and two free throws by Montgomery was all apart of a 16-0 run by the Lady Hornets to cut the deficit to 83-61. A jumper by Dilosa cut the deficit to 85-63. The Lady Patriots scored the final six points of the game.

Montgomery led the way with 25 points while Dilosa and Jordan added 15 points each. Jordan recorded eight rebounds including five offensive rebounds. Montgomery recorded five assists and five steal. Jordan added four blocks.

The Lady Hornets went 25-74 (33.8%) from the field, 5-23 (21.7%) from three and 8-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, January 10th at 1 pm against Columbia College in AMC play at Emerson Performance Center.
