NEVADA, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball picked up a 54-36 win on Tuesday night at Cottey. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 6-14 on the season and 5-9 in American Midwest Conference play while the Comets fall to 5-18 on the season and 4-10 in AMC play.

Before the opening tip, the Lady Hornets had a 2-0 lead thanks in part to sophomore guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) making two technical free throws. Back-to-back jumpers from senior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) and a jumper from Montgomery gave the Lady Hornets an 8-2 lead. A three from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) extended the Lady Hornets lead to 11-3. A jumper from Dilosa extended the lead to 13-5. A jumper from Montgomery gave the Lady Hornets a 15-6 lead after one quarter of play.

Two free throws from Montgomery, a three from Jordan and a jumper from junior forward Janiya Jones (Jackson, Tenn.) extended the Lady Hornets lead to 22-6. During the second quarter, the Lady Hornets held the Comets to zero points on 0-14 shooting and 0-5 from three while forcing four turnovers. The Lady Hornets held a 22-6 lead at halftime.

Back-to-back jumpers from Montgomery extended the lead to 26-6 early in the third quarter. A jumper from Dilosa extended the lead to 28-8. Two free throws from sophomore forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) extended the lead to 33-13 with 3:20 to play in the third quarter. A jumper from Davis extended the lead to 36-15. The Lady Hornets held a 39-20 lead after three quarters.

A jumper from Montgomery and a jumper from Jones extended the Lady Hornets lead to 43-22 early in the fourth quarter. A three from sophomore guard Janiya Brown (St. Louis, Mo./Jennings) extended the lead to 48-25. A layup from Jordan closed out the Lady Hornets 54-36 wire-to-wire win.

 Montgomery led the way with 17 points while Dilosa added 13 and Jordan added 10. Davis grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Montgomery recorded four assists. Jordan added three blocks. Davis and Jordan both recorded two steals.

The Lady Hornets held the Comets to just 24.5% percent from the field and 15.0% from three.

The Lady Hornets went 21-52 (40.4%) from the field, 3-5 (60.0%) from three and 9-16 (56.3%) from the free throw line.Â
