Lady Hornets Basketball Falls at Williams Baptist


WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 98-79 at Williams Baptist University on Thursday night. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 6-15 on the season and 5-10 in American Midwest Conference play while the Lady Eagles improve to 19-4 on the season and 13-2 in AMC play.

 

A three from sophomore guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) gave the Lady Hornets an early lead. Another three from Montgomery and a layup from senior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) extended the lead to 8-2. A 7-0 Lady Eagles run gave them a 9-8 lead. A jumper from Montgomery and from sophomore forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) gave the Lady Hornets a 12-9 lead. A jumper from Davis extended the lead to 14-10. A three from Dilosa gave the Lady Hornets a 17-12 lead with 4:04 left in the first quarter. A three from Montgomery and two free throws from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) extended the Lady Hornets lead to 22-14. The Lady Hornets led 22-17 after one quarter of play.

 

The Lady Eagles recorded a 13-1 run over the first 3:54 of the second quarter to turn a 22-17 deficit into a 30-23 lead. A three from Jordan cut the deficit to 30-26. A jumper from Jordan cut the Lady Eagles lead to 34-28. Two free throws from Davis cut the deficit to 38-30. Two free throws from Davis and a layup from Jordan cut the deficit to 42-34. A layup from Montgomery cut the deficit to 44-36 going into halftime.

 

A three from Dilosa cut the deficit to 44-39 early in the third quarter. A jumper and two free throws from Jordan cut the deficit to 46-43. A layup from junior forward Janiya Jones (Jackson, Tenn.) cut the deficit to 53-45. A layup from Davis and from Montgomery cut the deficit to 57-49. A layup from Jordan cut the deficit to 59-51. A three from Dilosa got the Lady Hornets within seven at 61-54. Two free throws from senior forward Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) and a layup from Davis cut the deficit to 65-58. A jumper from Montgomery cut the deficit to 69-60 going into the fourth quarter.

 

 A layup from Jordan trimmed the deficit to 69-62. A layup from Montgomery cut the deficit to 72-64. A jumper from Hunter cut the Lady Eagles lead to 75-66. A three from Dilosa cut the deficit to 78-69. A jumper from Montgomery cut the deficit to 79-71. A three from Dilosa cut the deficit to 81-74. The Lady Eagles closed the game on a 17-4 run to pull away from the Lady Hornets.

 

Montgomery led the way with 24 points while Jordan added a season-high 19, 17 from Dilosa and 12 from Davis. Jordan recorded a team-high seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Hunter led the way with three blocks.

 

The Lady Hornets went 29-71 (40.8%) from the field, 9-16 (56.3%) from three and 12-17 (70.6%) from the free throw line. The Lady Hornets tied their season-high with nine made threes.

 

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, February 14th at 3 pm at Crowley's Ridge in Paragould, Ark. in AMC play.
