Hornets Basketball Falls at Williams Baptist


WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 114-67 on Thursday night at Williams Baptist. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 4-19 on the season and 1-11 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eagles improve to 18-4 on the season and 8-3 in AMC play.

 

Sophomore guard Umar Lawson (Sumter, S.C./Voorhees University) gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead with a dunk just three seconds into the game. A layup from freshman forward Nashawn Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Columbia College) cut the deficit to 7-5. A jumper from junior center Dimitrije Stojanovic (Nis, Serbia/Bethel University) cut the deficit to 10-7. A dunk from Lawson cut the deficit to 12-9. A layup from Lawson and two free throws from sophomore guard Antonio Trotter (Nashville, Tenn./Williams Baptist) cut the deficit to 14-13. A jumper from senior forward Jalen Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Louis Community College) cut the deficit to 16-15. A layup from Watson cut the deficit to 18-17. A jumper from Watson cut the Eagles lead to 21-19. 

 

A layup from Davis and Stojanovic tied the game at 28 with 8:19 left in the first half. The Eagles used a 25-4 run over the final 8:18 of the half to break the tie and take a 53-32 lead into halftime.

 

A three from Trotter cut the deficit to 56-37 early in the second half. A layup from Watson cut the deficit to 59-41. Two free throws and a three from Lawson and a layup from Stojanovic cut the deficit to 66-49. A layup from Stojanovic cut the deficit to 68-51. An old-fashioned three point play from Stojanovic cut the deficit to 70-54. A jumper from Watson cut the deficit to 78-56. The Eagles closed the game on a 36-11 run.

 

Lawson led the way with 17 points while Stojanovic and Davis recorded 13 apiece and Watson added 12. Lawson and Trotter recorded eight rebounds each. Davis and Stojanovic recorded three assists each. Watson recorded a block. Davis recorded three steals.  

 

The Hornets went 25-79 (31.6%) from the field, 3-22 (13.6%) from three and 14-26 (53.8%) from the free throw line. 

 

The Hornets return to action on Thursday, February 14th at 1 pm at Crowley's Ridge in Paragould, Ark. in AMC play.
