Lady Hornets Basketball Falls at Columbia


COLUMBIA, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 85-47 at Columbia on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 5-14 on the season and 4-9 in American Midwest Conference play while the Cougars improve to 22-1 on the season and 14-0 in AMC play.

 

Sophomore guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would give the Lady Hornets an early 3-0 lead. The Cougars would go on an 8-0 run to take an 8-3 lead. A three from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) cut the deficit to 8-6. A Cougars 11-0 run extended their lead to 19-6. A layup from Jordan and a jumper from Montgomery cut the deficit to 19-10 going into the second quarter.

 

A layup from Jordan cut the Cougars lead to 19-12 early in the second quarter. A three from Jordan cut the deficit to seven at 22-15. A 9-0 Cougars run extended their lead to 31-15. A jumper from junior forward Janiya Jones (Jackson, Tenn.) cut the deficit to 31-17. A jumper from sophomore forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) cut the deficit to 33-19. An 8-0 Cougars run pushed their lead to 41-19. A jumper from Davis cut the deficit to 41-21. A three from Montgomery trimmed the Cougars lead to 43-24. The Cougars held a 45-24 lead at halftime.

 

A three from senior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) cut the deficit to 48-27 early in the third quarter. A layup from Jordan cut the deficit to 53-29. A layup from Davis cut the Cougars lead to 60-31. A jumper from Montgomery cut the Cougars lead to 60-33. A three from Dilosa cut the deficit to 62-36. Two free throws from Davis cut the deficit to 66-38 going into the fourth quarter.

 

The Cougars started the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter. A free throw and a layup from Jordan cut the deficit to 76-41. A jumper from Dilosa cut the Cougars lead to 81-43. A layup from sophomore guard Janiya Brown (St. Louis, Mo./Jennings) and a layup from Jordan cut the deficit to 83-47. The Cougars scored the final two points to pick up the 85-47 win.

 

Jordan led the way with a season-high 17 points while Montgomery added 10. Jordan recorded eight rebounds. Dilosa and Montgomery both recorded four assists. Dilosa recorded two steals. Jordan tied her season-high with seven blocks.

 

The Lady Hornets went 19-60 (31.7%) from the field, 6-24 (25.0%) from three and 3-7 (42.9%) from the free throw line. 

 

The Lady Hornets return to action on Tuesday, February 10th at 5:30 pm at Cottey College in Nevada, Mo. in AMC play.
