Softball Falls to Missouri Valley and Doane


BRANSON, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University softball fell 16-7 against Missouri Valley and 16-3 against Doane in the Stars and Stripes Spring Break Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. With the losses, the Lady Hornets fall to 1-7 on the season.

 

Game 1:

Junior second baseman Rakiara Bogan (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Mineral Area College) walked to start the game against the Vikings. Bogan would steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch. Junior outfielder Karmen Daniels (St. Louis, Mo./Fontbonne University) singled to left to score Bogan. Daniels would steal second and third. A sacrifice fly from junior utility player A'Kiayah Scales (St. Louis, Mo./Mineral Area College) scored Daniels to make it 2-0 Lady Hornets.

 

The Vikings would score 16 unanswered runs with five in the first, eight in the third and three in the fourth.

 

Senior outfielder Noemi Tudon (Houston, Texas/Waldorf University) singled to start the fifth. Freshman utility player Zainabou Diallo (Memphis, Tenn./Hillcrest) would walk. Scales singled to load the bases. Junior pitcher Symone Abraham (Decatur, Ill./Livingstone College) singled to center to score Tudon. Junior outfielder Zyon Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Lincoln University) singled to center to score Daniels. Sophomore catcher Brianna Huff (Columbus, Ohio/Private Tree of Life Christian College Preparatory High School) walked to score Scales to cut the deficit to 16-5. Senior shortstop Juanesha Washington (St. Louis, Mo./Carnahan High School) walked to score Abraham. Tudon would drive in Williams.

 

Tudon, Daniels and Abraham all recorded two hits while Scales and Williams added one. Tudon, Daniels, Scales, Abraham, Williams, Huff and Washington all recorded a run batted in. Daniels recorded two stolen bases and two runs scored.

 

Game 2:

The Tigers would score four in the top of the first. Bogan would reach on an infield single and then steal second and third. Scales would single home Bogan with two outs to cut the deficit to 4-1 after one inning of play.

 

The Tigers would score five runs in the second and third innings and two more in the fourth. Abraham walked with one out in the bottom of the fourth and advanced to second on a passed ball. Freshman infielder Crystal McFerren (St. Louis, Mo./ Fort Zumwalt North High School) singled to center to score Abraham to cut the deficit to 16-2.

 

Bogan would single to left in the bottom of the fifth. Daniels singled to right. Scales singled to center to score Bogan to cut the deficit to 16-3.

 

Bogan, Scales and McFerren all recorded two hits while Daniels added one. Scales recorded two runs batted in while McFerren had one. Bogan scored two runs and stole two bases.

 

The Lady Hornets return to action on March 17th at 2 and 4 pm against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Affton Athletic Association.
