COLUMBIA, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball fell 10-2 in game one and 14-2 in game two on Friday afternoon against Columbia College at Battle High School. With the losses, the Hornets fall to 1-12 on the season and 0-8 in American Midwest Conference play while the Cougars improve to 15-7-1 and 6-1-1 in AMC play.

Game 1:
Junior left fielder Alex Fernandez (Caracas, Venezuela) doubled down the left field line to start the game. Fernandez moved to third on a fly out. Junior outfielder Hayden Waters singled to center to score Fernandez to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. The Cougars scored the next four runs to hold a 4-1 lead after four innings.

Sophomore center fielder Adrian Martinez (Davie, Fla.) tripled down the right field line to start the top of the fifth. Junior shortstop Felix Daclan (Modesto, Calif.) grounded out to score Martinez to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Cougars scored the final six runs of the game.

Martinez led the way with two hits while Fernadez, Waters, junior first baseman Brayden Hatley (St. Louis, Mo.), senior right fielder Tashaun Coleman (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior third baseman Andrew Kobe (St. Louis, Mo.) all recorded one hit. Daclan and Waters both had a run batted in.

Game 2:
Fernandez singled to start game two. Daclan doubled to left center to score Fernandez from first to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. The Cougars scored the next eight runs to take an 8-1 lead after four innings.

Freshman catcher Jacob Frankera homered to center field to lead off the fifth for the Hornets and cut the deficit to 8-2. The Cougars scored the final six runs.

Fernandez led the way with two hits while Daclan, Waters, Hatley, Kobe, Frankera and junior third baseman Carter Henderson (San Diego, Calif.) recorded one hit. Daclan and Frankera had one run batted in apiece.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday at 1 pm to conclude their series against Columbia at Battle High School.
