ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball fell 10-4 in game one and 14-9 in game two on Saturday afternoon at Stars Park against the University of Health Science and Pharmacy. With the loss, the Hornets are 3-22 on the season and 1-16 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eutectics are 19-18 on the season and 11-7 in AMC play.

Saturday was senior day and eight players were honored between the games and they were: starting pitcher Dakota Gaines (Jay, Oklahoma), second baseman Michael Khatkar (Vancouver, Canada), second baseman Jordan Bradley (St. Louis, Mo.), catcher Dima Cornell-Neal (Trumbull, Ct.), starting pitcher Joseph Mann (Bacolod, Philippines), first baseman and pitcher Logan Schwerdt (Saint Peters, Mo.), starting pitcher Avion Wallace (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and starting pitcher Tre Whiting (Arnold, Mo.).

Game 1:
The Eutectics scored two runs in the first and two in the fourth to hold a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the third.Â

Junior third baseman Andrew Kobe (St. Louis, Mo.) walked to start the Hornets third. Kobe would advance to second on a wild pitch and advance to third on a ground out. Junior outfielder Hayden Waters grounded out to the shortstop to score Kobe and cut the deficit to 4-1 after three innings of play. The Eutectics scored one run in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1.

Senior right fielder Tashaun Coleman (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior shortstop Felix Daclan (Modesto, Calif.) both reached on one-out walks in the sixth. Junior catcher Ian Funk (Wildwood, Mo.) reached on a fielder's choice and on a throwing error Coleman would score to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Eutectics scored five runs in the seventh to take a 10-2 lead.

Schwerdt would start the seventh with a walk. Sophomore catcher Jayden Matthews (Fayetteville, Ark.) would run for Schwerdt and advance to second on a wild pitch. Kobe singled to right to advance Matthews to third. Junior first baseman Brayden Hatley (St. Louis, Mo.) singled to left to score Matthews. Coleman would reach on an infield single to score Kobe to cut the deficit to 10-4.

Kobe and Hatley both recorded two hits while Coleman had one. Hatley, Waters and Coleman all had one run batted in.

Game 2:
The Eutectics scored four runs in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, junior left fielder Alexander Fernandez (Caracas, Venezuela) singled. Hatley doubled to left and advanced Fernandez to third. Waters singled to center to score Fernandez to cut the Eutectics lead to 4-1.

The Eutectics scored three runs in the third. In the bottom of the third, Hatley doubled down the left field line. Waters singled to left center to score Waters to cut the deficit to 7-2. The Eutectics scored four runs in the fourth.

Daclan led off the fourth with a double to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Freshman infielder Riquendri Morel doubled down the left field line to score Daclan to cut the deficit to 11-3. Fernandez singled to left to score Morel to cut the deficit to 11-4.Â

The Eutectics scored one run in the fifth and two in the eighth to extend their lead to 14-4.

In the bottom of the eighth, Kobe hit a solo home run to left to cut the deficit to 14-5. Matthews singled to left. Morel singled to left. Fernandez doubled to left center to score Matthews and Morel to cut the deficit to 14-7. Fernandez moved up a base on a passed ball. Schwerdt walked. Fernandez scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the ninth, Coleman would hit a home run to cut the deficit to 14-9.

Fernandez and Hatley both recorded three hits while Waters, Matthews and Morel added two hits and Coleman, Daclan and Kobe all had one hit. Fernandez recorded three runs batted in, Waters had two, Morel, Coleman and Kobe had one.

The Hornets return to action next Friday, April 17th at 5 pm at Central Baptist in Conway, Ark.
