ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball fell 4-2 in game one and 17-12 in game two on Friday afternoon at Stars Park against Williams Baptist University. With the losses, the Hornets fall to 2-18 on the season and 1-13 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eagles improve to 22-15 on the season and 9-5 in AMC play.

Game 1:
Junior left fielder Alexander Fernandez (Caracas, Venezuela) walked to start the bottom of the first before stealing second. Junior shortstop Felix Daclan (Modesto, Calif.) singled to right center to score Fernandez and on the throw moved to second and on a throwing error would score making it 2-0 Hornets after one inning of play.

The Eagles would score one run in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

Daclan, senior pitcher Logan Schwerdt (Saint Peter's, Mo.) and senior right fielder Tashaun Coleman (Indianapolis, Ind.) all recorded one hit in the game. Daclan had one run batted in. Fernandez, Coleman and freshman outfielder Richard Patton all had a stolen base.

Game 2:
Coleman started the bottom of the second by reaching second on an error by the left fielder. Junior third baseman Andrew Kobe (St. Louis, Mo.) reached on a bunt single and advanced Coleman to third. Kobe would create the distraction between first and second allowing Coleman to steal home and make it 1-0 Hornets.Â

Fernandez doubled down the left field line to start the bottom of the third. Fernandez stole third and scored on the throwing error by the catcher to make it 2-0. Daclan doubled to center. Daclan moved up to third on a flyout. Junior outfielder Hayden Waters singled to right field to score Daclan to make it 3-0 Hornets. The Eagles would score one run in the fourth and five in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.

Junior first baseman Brayden Hatley (St. Louis, Mo.) singled to left to start the bottom of the fifth. Waters would hit a two-run home run to left field to cut the deficit to 6-5. Freshman catcher Jacob Frankera singled to center. Junior second baseman Jordan Bradley (St. Louis, Mo.) would run for Frankera and steal second. Kobe singled to center to score Bradley to tie the game at six. Junior third baseman Carter Henderson (San Diego, Calif.) doubled down the left field line. Junior catcher Ian Funk (Wildwood, Mo.) walked to load the bases. Fernandez would hit a sacrifice fly to score Kobe to give the Hornets a 7-6 lead after five innings. The Eagles scored four in the sixth to take a 10-7 lead.

Waters walked to start the Hornets sixth. Schwerdt singled to right. Coleman singled to left to score Waters. Kobe singled to load the bases. Freshman infielder Riquendri Morel, hit for Funk, and would record a sacrifice fly to score Schwerdt to cut the deficit to 10-9.

Hatley was hit by a pitch with one out in the seventh. Waters hit his second two-run home run to give the Hornets an 11-10 lead. Schwerdt would extend the lead to 12-10 with a solo home run to left.

The Eagles would score two runs in the eighth and five in the ninth to take a 17-12 lead.

Kobe led the way with four hits, Waters added three, Schwerdt and Hatley added two, while Fernandez, Daclan, Frankera, Coleman and Henderson all had one. Waters had five runs batted in and two home runs while Schwerdt, Fernandez, Coleman, Kobe and Morel all recorded one run batted in.

The Hornets return to action on Wednesday, April 8th at 1 pm with game two to follow against LeMoyne-Owen at Stars Park. Game three of the Williams Baptist series will be made up at a later date.
