ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball won 4-3 in game one and lost 16-14 in game two on Wednesday afternoon at Stars Park against LeMoyne-Owen College. With the split, the Hornets are 3-19 on the season while the Magicians are 16-25 on the season.

Game 1:
The Magicians scored one run in the third and fourth innings.

Junior outfielder Hayden Waters was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Junior shortstop Felix Daclan (Modesto, Calif.) would hit a two-run home run to left to tie the game at two. Senior first baseman Logan Schwerdt (Saint Peter's, Mo.) reached on an error. Senior right fielder Tashaun Coleman (Indianapolis, Ind.) singled to right to move Schwerdt to third, but the Hornets were unable to score any more runs in the fourth.Â

Junior first baseman Brayden Hatley (St. Louis, Mo.) singled to center with two outs in the fifth. Hatley would steal second before scoring on a two-out double from Waters to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead. The Magicians would tie the game in the top of the sixth.

Junior left fielder Alexander Fernandez (Caracas, Venezuela) doubled down the left field line to start the bottom of the seventh. Junior third baseman Andrew Kobe (St. Louis, Mo.) reached on a fielder's choice to the shortstop and Fernandez would score on the throwing error by the shortstop to give the Hornets a 4-3 win.

Fernandez led the way with two hits while Hatley, Waters, Daclan, Schwerdt and Coleman all had one hit. Daclan had two runs batted in while Waters had one.

Senior starting pitcher Tre Whiting (Arnold, Mo.) went three innings allowing two hits and one run. Senior starting pitcher Dakota Gaines (Jay, Oklahoma) went two innings in relief allowing two hits and one run. Senior starting pitcher Joseph Mann (Bacolod, Philippines) went the sixth and seventh innings allowing two hits and one run while picking up his second win of the season.

Game 2:
Fernandez led off the bottom of the first with a double to left center. Kobe walked. Fernandez stole third. Hatley would walk and with Kobe running on the pitch and the throw from the catcher going to second Fernandez stole home to make it 1-0 Hornets. Kobe and Hatley would advance to second and third on a fly out. Coleman singled to left and advanced to second while Kobe and Hatley scored to make it 3-0 Hornets after one inning of play.

The Magicians scored three runs in the second, one in the third and six in the fourth to take a 10-3 lead.

Coleman doubled to left center with one out in the fourth and would steal third. Junior first baseman Carter Henderson (San Diego, Calif.) walked. Freshman outfielder Richard Patton singled to left to score Coleman to cut the deficit to 10-4. Junior catcher Ian Funk (Wildwood, Mo.) hit a three run home run to left field to cut the deficit to 10-7. Fernandez tripled to center. Kobe would record a sacrifice fly to score Fernandez to cut the deficit to 10-8.

The Magicians scored four more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 14-8.

The Hornets rallied in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out walk to Kobe. Hatley reached on an error. Waters was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Daclan doubled to right field to score Kobe and Hatley. Coleman doubled down the left field line to score Waters and Daclan to cut the deficit to 14-12. Junior second baseman Jordan Bradley (St. Louis, Mo.) reached second on a throwing error by the pitcher to score Coleman. Patton singled to left center to score Bradley to tie the game at 14.

The Hornets had a chance to walk it off again in the seventh, but were unable to score the winning run.

The Magicians scored twice in the eighth to take a 16-14 lead.

Coleman led the way with three hits while Patton and Fernandez had two and Funk, Daclan, Kobe and Waters had one hit each. Coleman recorded four runs batted in while Funk had three, Patton and Daclan had two and Kobe had one.

The Hornets return to action on Friday, April 10th at 12 pm against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Stars Park.
