ST. LOUIS - The Harris-Stowe women's basketball team hosted the Mustangs of Central Baptist in a contest for the books. With highlight reel worthiness, the Hornets escaped with a 50-48 victory.
CBC took control of the opening ten, however, HSSU was never out of contention, as they closed the gap to 16-14. In the second quarter, the Mustangs finished with a 13-12 advantage, leading to a slight advantage entering the break. In a tale of two halves, the Hornets came out blazing in the second half, taking the third quarter 10-8 and the fourth 14-11.
Harris-Stowe's victory was a definite team effort as several Hornets scored double-digits. Destiney Amaefula paced the team with 19 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Samara Swire tallied 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal. Keuna Cummings scored 11 points, eight rebounds, one block and one steal.
The Hornets travel to Columbia, Missouri, to face the Stars of Stephens College on Thursday, January 19th. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
