ST. LOUIS – Not every roll in bowling is a strike, some are splits and that's exactly what the Harris-Stowe softball team accomplished against the Benedict Tigers. After an exhausting day of traveling, the Hornets dropped game one 30-7 and clinched the second 7-6.
Game One
The Tigers exploded with ten runs in the first, three in the second, six in the third and 11 in the fourth. With a definitive lead, the Tigers did not have to bat in the bottom of the fifth.
HSSU scored three in the first and their final four in the third. The Hornets recorded seven runs on six hits and four errors.
Game Two
It was the tale of two games and the Hornets proved they were someone to contend with. Shaking off the disappointment from game one, the Hornets were suited and ready for battle.
Going scoreless in the top of the first, HSSU relinquished two runs in the bottom of the inning and four in the second. But like Michael Jackson, Harris-Stowe determined, "This is it!" In the third, the Hornets scored two runs, one in the fourth and fifth innings, and took the contest by scoring three in the seventh.
HSSU scored seven runs on 13 hits and even with five errors, were able to secure the win.
