Baseball Falls on Road to William Woods

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 FULTON, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball played their series against William Woods University on Friday night and Saturday afternoon at Backer Sports Complex in Fulton. The Hornets lost 14-4 on Friday night and fell 6-5 in the first game on Saturday and 17-7 in game two on Saturday. With the losses the Hornets fall to 1-24 om the season and 0-15 in American Midwest Conference play while the Owls improve to 22-18-1 and 9-6 in AMC play.

Friday night's game the Owls would jump out to a 6-0 lead after three innings of play. Junior third baseman Tyson Dent (Memphis, Tenn.) would lead off the top of the fourth with a single. Senior infielder Julian Cintel (St. Louis, Mo.) would get hit by pitch with two outs. Dent would steal third and Cintel would steal second and both would advance on the throwing error by the Owls catcher to cut the lead to 6-1. The Owls would push across two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth junior outfielder Dwayne Daggs (St. Louis, Mo.) would single with two outs and senior catcher Austin Toler (Highland, Ill./Highland) would walk, Dent would get hit to load the bases. Senior first baseman Hunter Miller (Chesterfield, Mo./Upper Iowa University) would pick up and RBI the easy way with a walk. After another throwing error by the catcher Toler and Dent would score to cut the lead to 8-4. The Owls would score the last six runs of the game.

In the first game on Saturday, the Owls would score one in the first to take a 1-0 lead into the third. Cintel would single in Daggs to tie the game at one. The Owls would score two to take a 3-1 lead into the fifth. Senior outfielder Xavier Fuller (Memphis, Tenn./Middle College) would start the fifth with a walk, then a Daggs single and another single from senior infielder Devin Rader (Dallas, Texas/Cedar Hill) would load the bases with zero outs. Dent would reach on an error to score Fuller. Cintel would single to reload the bases for senior catcher Zach Lopez (Wentzville, Mo.) who would reach on an error to score Rader. Senior third baseman Kyran Bacchus (Memphis, Tenn./Southwind) would single in Dent and Cintel to give the Hornets a 5-3. The Owls would score the last three runs of the game.

In game three of the series, the Owls would score three runs in the first, six in the fourth, three in each the fifth and sixth to carry a 15-0 lead into the seventh. Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Anderson Dotolo (Tulsa, Okla.) would start the seventh with a walk before advancing on a wild pitch. Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Sam Britton (St. Louis, Mo.) would single to right to drive in Dotolo. After advancing to second and third on wild pitches sophomore pitcher/first baseman Logan Schwerdt (Saint Peters, Mo.) would drive in Britton with a ground out.

Toler would extend the inning after reaching on an error. Cintel would single and advance Toler to third. Sophomore infielder Cameron Pratt (Anderson, Ind.) would single in Toler. Rader would single in Cintel to cut the lead to 15-4. Bacchus would double in Pratt and Dotolo would drive in Rader and Bacchus to cut the lead to 15-7 before the Owls would end the game with to in the seventh.

Cintel would go 7-10 at the plate, while Daggs would go 4-6 and Bacchus would go 3-8.

The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, April 16th against the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 2 pm.
