Hornets Basketball Falls to Mission

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball 83-73 to Mission University on Thursday night at Emerson Performance Center. The Hornets fall to 4-12 on the season and 1-7 in American Midwest Conference play while the Patriots improve to 6-9 on the season and 4-4 in AMC play.

The Patriots would score the first four points of the game before senior guard Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) would make two free throws to cut the Patriots lead to 4-2. Senior forward Keondre Brown (Los Angeles, Calif./Grandview University) cut the deficit to 7-4 with a layup. Sophomore guard Justin Coleman (St. Louis, Mo./Delta State University) would make two free throws to cut the deficit to 11-6. A layup from senior forward Jermarco Burse (Annapolis, Mo./Truman State University) and a jumper from senior guard Kevin Jones (Sikeston, Mo./Dakota State University) cut the lead to 14-10 Patriots. A three from Burse cut the deficit to one. With 12:03 left in the first half Burse made a three that gave the Hornets the lead at 16-14. A Coleman layup pushed the lead to 18-14. 

Senior guard Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) pushed the Hornets lead to 20-16. Back-to-back jumpers from junior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) would give the Hornets a 24-20 lead. A 6-0 run by the Patriots gave them a 26-24 lead before a layup from Chargois tied the game at 26. The Patriots closed out the half on an 8-4 run to hold a 34-30 lead going into the half.

A layup from Chargois to start the second half cut the deficit to two. Lampley's jumper cut the deficit to 36-34. Two free throws from Amos III tied the game at 36. Chargois would score the next seven points for the Hornets to help them take a 43-41 lead. A three form Burse put the Hornets back on top 46-43. Amos III would score the next four points before Lampley added a jumper to make it 52-49 Hornets. A three from Burse made it 55-52 Hornets with 11:19 left in the game. An 8-4 run by the Patriots would give them a 60-59 lead. A layup from junior forward Koran Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) cut the deficit to 64-61. A 15-5 run by the Patriots pushed their lead to 79-66 before taking the 83-73 win.

Chargois led with 17 points while Burse added 14 points off the bench, Amos III added 12 and Lampley added 10. Chargois added 11 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season. Amos III added six assists in the game. Junior guard Justin Edwards (Corona, Calif./Oakwood University) recorded three steals.

The Hornets went 29-75 (38.7%) from the field, 4-19 (21.1%) from three and 11-14 (78.6%) at the free throw line.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, January 18th at 3 pm at the University of Health Science & Pharmacy.
