ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 84-76 to Rust on Saturday afternoon at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-1 on the season while the Bearcats improve to 1-2.

Umar Lawson (Sumter, S.C./Voorhees University) made a jumper to cut the Bearcats lead to 3-2. A jumper by senior center
Dimitrije Stojanovic (Nis, Serbia/Bethel University) would give the Hornets the lead with a jumper. A layup by Lawson pushed the lead to 6-3. A layup by Lawson made it 8-5 Hornets. A 7-0 Bearcats run gave them a 12-8 lead. A jumper by senior forward
Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) cut the deficit to 12-10. A dunk by Lawson cut it 13-12 with 11:10 to play in the first half. A layup from Lawson cut it to 15-14. A three from junior guard
Adolphus Cast (Detroit, Mich./Schoolcraft College) cut the deficit to 25-19. A layup by Cast cut the deficit to 29-21. A three by junior guard
Shamar Carter (Inglewood, Calif./Moberly Area CC) cut the Bearcats lead to 32-24. Two free throws from Cast cut it to 32-26 Bearcats. A jumper by Stojanovic cut the Bearcats lead to 34-28. The Bearcats closed the first half with an 8-0 run to take a 42-28 lead into halftime.

Jalen Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Louis Community College) cut the lead to 44-30. Two free throws by Stojanovic and a layup by Lawson cut the deficit to 46-34. A three by Lampley cut the deficit to 52-38. A layup by Lawson cut the Bearcats lead to 54-40. A layup by sophomore guard
Antonio Trotter (Nashville, Tenn./Williams Baptist University) cut the deficit to 59-45. A layup and dunk from Lawson cut the deficit to 64-49 with 10:56 left in the game.Â
Six straight points by freshman forward
Nashawn Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Columbia College) and a layup by Trotter helped the Hornets cut the deficit to 70-57. Two free throws from Lawson, a layup by Davis and a layup by Lawson cut the Bearcats lead to 70-63 with 8:02 left in the game. Two free throws by Davis cut the deficit to 72-65. A layup and free throw by Davis cut the deficit to 78-70. Four straight points by Davis got the Hornets within four at 78-74. The Bearcats used a 6-0 run to push their lead to 84-74. Lawson would make a dunk to cut it 84-76.
Lawson led the way with 27 points while Davis went for 19 points, which were all scored in the second half. Lampley and Stojanovic went for seven rebounds apiece. Trotter recorded five assists. Trotter led the way with four steals while Carter and Davis had three. Stojanovic and Lawson recorded one block each.
The Hornets went 30-67 (44.8%) from the field, 3-14 (21.4%) from three and 13-18 (72.2%) at the free throw line. The Hornets forced the Bearcats into 22 turnovers.
The Hornets return to action next Saturday, November 8th at 3 pm against Culver-Stockton at Emerson Performance Center.
